That's why I got it! Actually the movie looks pretty good on this dvd. It also looks bright like the old Elite disc. http://images.google.be/imgres?imgur...26tbs%3Disch:1 |

Has anyone heard of an Italian (I think) company called MYA? They seem to be releasing a lot of Euro cult titles in the US these days.

I used to have three italian dvd's: Black Belly of the Tartantula, Door to Silence and The Sect. But, stupidly, I traded them |

I'm not a bit fan of Mya,they are releasing a lot of bad quality dvd's. There are exceptions but that's mostly reissue stuff from NoShame. I've only got Four Flies from them, after reading the reviews I'm not really tempted to get more... It's a bit of a shady company, nothing is really known about them. |

I've got a few Mya Communications DVDs myself and tend to check up on any of their titles i may fancy buying before actually shelling out the cash for the release in question. This company is reputedly a poor offshoot of the previously impressive No Shame outfit. Many (if not possibly all!) of Mya's DVDs are apparently sourced from VHS versions so it may pay to think twice before you buy. I know i do! I have both No Shame's The Strange Vice Of Mrs. Wardh and Mya's edition entitled Blade Of The Ripper. The featurette from the former DVD is missing from the latter. But apart from that all other extras seem intact. At least judging by comparing bonus material info on the DVD sleeves. However, No Shame's release runs for around 93 or 94 mins whereas Mya's DVD states a duration of 81 mins according to the back cover! Both of these editions i own are still sealed so i'm not sure if the running time of the aforementioned featurette has been taken into account on No Shame's version and possibly omitted from Mya's issue. I would hate to think there's footage missing from this latest DVD. |

Seems the 81 mins is a mistake? But the Noshame disc is a dvd 9 and the Mya a dvd 5 according to what I've read. "I'm fairly sure that the feature itself was larger than single-layer size so either they've done a new encode at a lower bitrate or they've recompressed the MPEG2 stream." (lovelockandload) The Mya disc is also still interlaced (like the old NoShame). http://10kbullets.com/reviews/b/blad...-of-mrs-wardh/ Subs also seem to be a problem with Mya releases (spelling mistakes and bad English) The discs are also way overpriced for what they offer. Mya being an offshoot of NoShame was never really confirmed...an "interview" with them appeared on the Mya blog (fanblog) in which the connection was made but they also stated in that interview that Four Flies was mastered from the original negative (which doesn't seems to be correct) and other questionable facts. http://myadvd.blogspot.com/2009/03/mya-responds.html Last edited by bdc; 21st March 2010 at 10:59 AM. |

So MYA are crap then? Not worth buying their discs?

I wouldn't go that far, they do try! The picture quality of Four Flies is superb, it's just the film is not the definitive, uncut version they claim it is. The Legend Of Blood Castle is great to see in the form they offer it, but it's not taken from very good sources, so the PQ is disappointing. I'd read reviews before buying. They do tend to be a bit expensive though, but I wouldn't say I was massively disappointed with any of my Mya disks; but research before spending cash!
