I didn't realise how rare the Jungle Book DVDs are -- I remember buying one for my mum from Morrisons for nine quid. I presume GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra was a blind buy as I thought it was utterly abysmal and couldn't make it to the halfway point, let alone the end credits!

However, I am willing to overlook that purchase as The Film Noir Collection looks superb and will be another one for my wishlist.

actually Nos, i loved G.I Joe, i grew up with the cartoons and the action figures so there was this epic nostalgia thing going on, it's great dumb fun entertainment.

The Film Noir Collection is brilliant, i watched The Killers the other night and the opening 15 minutes is utterly compelling in it's dialogue. Tarantino must have used the film as an influence on his writing.

Maybe that's the problem -- I didn't grow up with the action figures and cartoons so had no nostalgia for the 'brand' or the characters. I have a high tolerance (and love) for crap movies, but that was too much. I watched it with two other guys who both like dumb action movies and it was a consensus decision to give up and stop the BD!

The Killers is a great movie and I have the Criterion Collection DVD set which has both the 1946 and 1964 versions -- if you like that disc, seriously consider buying the Criterion release.

i might have to do that as im up for anything starring Lee Marvin. Saw the remake or TV movie version as it was actually made as a TV movie a few years back and it's made by the great Don Siegel too boot which is a bonus..

The remake is actually pretty good and it's pretty funny to see Ronald Reagan in a crime movie!

I enjoyed G.I. Joe too, the Paris action scenes were immense.

By the way, i played with Action Force toys rather than G.I. Joe, Baron Ironblood, the Black Major and the Red Shadows etc.

yeah action force, that was the U.K name for it. i used to have Shipwreck, BeachHead, duke, Flint, Falcon, Lady Jane, Kwik-kick, Roadblock, Gung-Ho and even managed to get hold of a general Hawk at one point. I really wanted to get hold of the dreadnaughts with zartan and his cronies but they were so hard to find.

Recently saw the mini web series called G.I Joe: Resolute, which was decidedly more adult, quite violent and really well animated.

As always, excellent video, Sammy. You have some really cool box sets and that Lost 'Dharma Initiation Set' is absolutely brilliant.
