I sold off my Avatar 1 blu-ray, the cgi was quite impressive but the script was awful! Not very excited for more of the same. Cameron's two best scripts are still 1984's The Terminator and 1986's Aliens (although I have a soft spot for The Abyss) and Avatar was imo, a really disappointing return to the world of science-fiction.

Scorsese's The Irishman has been picked up by Netflix. A massive scoop for them, probably down to Silence being a flop.

That is a massive scoop for Netflix, but not for cinemagoers who want to see Scorsese's films – normally visually impressive – on a massive screen with no distractions and the best sound system available. The fact Silence flopped is a shame because I was really impressed with it and was looking forward to The Irishman at the cinema if only because I loved the book on which it was based.

I'm less bothered that 13th, Ava DuVernay's brilliant documentary on mass incarceration in the US and the sociopolitical and judicial system behind it was only available to watch at home, but Beasts of No Nation is something I wish I had seen at the cinema.

Frankenhooker 22nd February 2017 02:37 PM

Beasts Of No Nation played at a handful of theatres, purely to satisfy awards eligibility, I imagine The Irishman's release will be similar. Unless you're lucky you won't get to see it on the big screen. Crazy to think a Scorsese film starring De Niro, Pacino and Keitel is being released this way, but here we are.

Because I have very little access to independent cinemas, using my Unlimited Cineworld card for the bulk of my viewing and, when that fails, will visit the local Vue, the chances I'll see The Irishman at a cinema are very small. Unless it is screened at a private venue like an art centre (the Arc in Stockton or Forum in Northallerton are closest, but not ideal), the first chance I'll have to view it will be in my bedroom at the same time as the rest of the British population, which is absurd for any film, let alone an epic gangster film by Martin Scorsese!

My guess is the only people who will see the film in a cinema are those who live in, or travel frequently to, London. It is sad that cinemas are being marginalised in such a way and this is considered 'progress'.

Demdike@Cult Labs 25th February 2017 01:57 PM

Definitely an Expendables of horror style film. Starring Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Sid Haig, Doug Bradley, Bill Moseley, Dee Wallace, Danny Trejo, Ken Foree, Michael Berryman, Barbara Crampton.

It'll probably be garbage.

Due october 20th.

More information about the "complicated" Dunkirk which, befitting the subject, sounds like an emotional experience rather than an intellectually challenging film which will be so multilayered it requires several viewings to decipher the various narrative layers.
