Crimes of the Future’: David Cronenberg’s New Movie With Kristen Stewart Begins Filming

"As we recently learned, David Cronenberg’s (Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone, The Fly, A History of Violence) next movie is a sci-fi/horror project titled Crimes of the Future, with the cast including Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen. Today Deadline provides an update on the project, announcing that filming is officially underway in Athens, Greece!

“As we begin filming Crimes Of The Future, just two days into this new adventure with David Cronenberg, it feels like we’ve entered a story he collaborated on with Samuel Beckett and William Burroughs, if that were possible,” Mortensen said in a statement shared today. “We are being pulled into a world that is not quite like this or any other, and yet is one that feels strangely familiar, immediate and quite credible. I can’t wait to see where we end up.”

The cast also includes Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar, Lihi Kornowski, Tanaya Beatty, Nadia Litz, Yorgos Karamichos, and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos.

Deadline recently detailed in a previous report, “This is the first original sci-fi script by Cronenberg since 1999’s eXistenZ. It sounds just as ambitious, taking a deep dive into the not-so-distant future where humankind is learning to adapt to its synthetic surroundings. This evolution moves humans beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. While some embrace the limitless potential of trans-humanism, others attempt to police it. Either way, “Accelerated Evolution Syndrome”, is spreading fast.”

In the film, “Saul Tenser is a beloved performance artist who has embraced Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Along with his partner Caprice, Tenser has turned the removal of these organs into a spectacle for his loyal followers to marvel at in real time theatre. But with both the government and a strange subculture taking note, Tenser is forced to consider what would be his most shocking performance of all.”

NEON is on board to release Crimes of the Future in the United States."

This sounds brilliant and something only David Cronenberg would make.

Nic cage next film,

Prisoners of Ghostland, it’s not a trailer as such it’s more of a brief outline of the story and then showing the cast.

Sequel to Found Footage Movie ‘Chronicle’ in the Works; “It’s the Next Generation Getting These Powers

Hugely profitable back in 2012, the found footage sci-fi movie Chronicle never did spawn a sequel, but now just under ten years later, it looks like that’s about to soon change.

Speaking with Forbes this week, producer John Davis (Jungle Cruise) revealed that Chronicle 2 is currently in the works, and this time it’ll be presenting a fresh point-of-view.

“Chronicle was literally the best return on investment, any of my movies ever made. Chronicle we did for $12 million, and it grossed $126.64 million worldwide. Then it had a huge afterlife in syndication. It’s one of the most financially successful movies in my stable. We’re working on Chronicle 2 right now, and I think it’s going to be great,” Davis explains.

He continues, “We’re working on it at Fox (20th Century Studios). It’s going to give us a chance to tell the story in a different way. We’re going to tell it from the female point of view. It will have been ten years since the event happened in Seattle, and a lot of it’s going to deal with fake news and real news and cover-ups. More interestingly, it’s the next generation getting these powers that are corruptive. These are young women just finishing college, they are empowered, and this is their journey. I mean, what a new and interesting story you can tell there.”

Directed by Josh Trank, the original Chronicle starred Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Michael B. Jordan and Michael Kelly and was produced by Davis Entertainment.

In Chronicle, “Whilst attending a party, three high school friends gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery underground. Soon, though, they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides.“

Kevin Smith shares first look at Clerks 3 as Marvel star teases role
They're not even supposed to be here today.

Clerks 3 writer, director and actor Kevin Smith has delivered the first behind-the-scenes look at his upcoming comedy.

Earlier this week, the Silent Bob portrayer uploaded an Instagram shot of the cast together on set, writing: "How I spent my 51st birthday! Clerks III, Day 1 – with @briancohalloran and #jeffanderson and @jaymewes and @trevorfehrman and @austinzajur.

"Thanks to that sweet @lionsgate cash, we *are* supposed to be here today!"

O'Halloran is of course reprising his character Dante, whilst Mewes and Anderson are stepping back into the shoes of Jay and Randall.

Rosario Dawson, Donnell Rawlings, Marilyn Ghigliotti and David Dastmalchian will also feature in this sequel to 2006's Clerks 2.

Meanwhile, Dastmalchian himself teased his involvement with the project on Instagram recently, by posting a behind-the-scenes selfie (in SWAT gear) with Smith to celebrate the latter's birthday

It looks to be a thoughtful and engaging film although, with Clint Eastwood's age (91), it might be a bit different from N. Richard Nash's novel in which the main character is 38 years old.

Considering Eastwood first wanted to adapt the novel into a film in 1988, there have been several unsuccessful attempts to make a film adaptation, the director/lead actor is now a nonagenarian, and shooting took place in the middle of a global pandemic, it's a minor miracle that film has been made at all!

'Night Of The Animated Dead'

"George A. Romero’s horror classic Night of the Living Dead gets an animated adaptation with Night of the Animated Dead

This looks to be a pretty faithful adaptation of Romero’s movie, only in color this time around, but we’ve also been promised “exclusive animated scenes” that were not found in the 1968 horror classic.

We’ve learned that Night of the Animated Dead will first be coming to Digital on September 21, followed by a DVD and Blu-ray Combo Pack release on October 5."
