First paragraph

The writers behind The Blair Witch Project and the Final Destination franchise will collaborate a new project, called The Unearthly. While details are slim, the film will reportedly be a satirical horror.

In film culture, and certainly within pop culture, The Blair Witch Project is primarily known as the pseudo-documentary that initially terrified viewers with its found-footage premise. Written and directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez (and produced for $60,000), the indie classic earned nearly $250 million at the box office and essentially inspired a new sub-genre, along with two sequels: Joe Berlinger’s Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) and Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch (2016). Meanwhile, the Final Destination five-film franchise has been wildly successful over the years, beginning with James Wong’s 2000 original. While the supernatural horror movies haven’t necessarily been well-received by critics, the series continuously produced big profits for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures

Agreed. At a certain point it just becomes sad.

As Joss Whedon said (about attempts to revive Firefly): "At what point does resuscitation become necrophilia?"

Deja Vu all over again!

All I can say is: "Why"? It's been done before

What was new and novel in the first one is quickly becoming tired and jaded

Rik 30th November 2018 05:22 PM

First one was great, I keep meaning to pick it up

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 30th November 2018 06:48 PM

I enjoyed Happy Death Day and it's on my wish list as well. I'm not sure exactly what interesting or engaging could do with a second film, but remain open to be pleasantly surprised.

Demoncrat 30th November 2018 09:35 PM

Am more intrigued by the news that Matthew Holness has made a film.

Possum

as I have enjoyed his tv stuff for years. This I heard about on a 'folk horror' group on FB .... so I sits patiently.

Just about to post about this myself. I'm not bothered about the whole reboot angle of the lack of Perlman. But this just looks poor, cringey and silly. Which is a shame cos Niel Marshall was one of my favourite directors before he disappeared into TV town.

Yeah. looks poor. Is this supposed to be a comedy?
It got worse when Mo from EastEnders appeared.
Why not just make a third Hellboy with Perlman and the original cast? No reboot needed. Perlman was perfect.

A look at the cast of “Son of Shaft”.

I’ve written it like that because some online articles are just calling it Shaft, which would be the stupidest idea since someone decided to call the 2000 sequel Shaft. So now you’d have Shaft (1971), a sequel, Shaft (2000) and a sequel to that, Shaft. Ridiculous.

Huge Hellboy/BPRD fan, loved both comics & first 2 films, this remake looks AWFUL!

The tone is odd & the makeup looks a bit off when you see it in action, why all the comedy? Deadpool/Guardians of the Galaxy were great but no need to copy them! Perlman & GDT got the tone perfect with the first two.
