my doc is strange

Gervais is a funny guy,but there seems to be a lot of jealousy because he's one of the few British comedians to crack America, bottom line if you don't like him don't watch anything he is in,its not rocket science is it?

More CGi tomfoolery from the Marvel universe,Cumberbatch is strange.

Agree with you on Gervais, Inspector.

He sure is but he makes this look watchable to me.

But I have!

I was working as an admin assistant in a CAB when 'The Office' was first screened, and I didn't get it then

Maybe I worked in a good office!

I have tried to like him. I watched 'The Office' and 'Extras', but neither moved me.

I refused to watch 'The Invention Of Lying' when my landlady got it from Blockbuster when it first came out, leading to her accusing me of being 'narrow-minded' because I didn't give it a chance!

Obviously humour is subjective, but I don't understand why people fall about laughing at him. Eddie Izzard is the same for me

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 14th April 2016 07:08 PM

I'm not a fan of Gervais but I do like some of Izzard's stuff.

I'm really looking forward to Dr Strange , more than batman vs superman and captain America civil war, with doctor strange being one of my favorite charcters

Are you unable to hold a job down? You seem to have done everything from teacher to porn to admin to landlady.

I really liked The Office and Extras when I saw them on TV and years ago on DVD, but it's been so long since I watched his TV stuff but I can't comment with any authority on my feelings now. I saw two of Ricky Gervais' stand-up shows and hated both of them as it wasn't clever observational humour – it was just easy and overly crude. I really didn't like the way he called his audience "c***s" at the beginning of the Science show – that completely remove the way.

Eddie izzard, by comparison, is much more adept at wordplay, storytelling and absurdity, things which always appealed to me when I'm watching stand-up comedy. He is also more interesting person, putting his own life stories into the act, something Billy Connolly does extremely well (or, at least did – I don't know what his status is now).

Going back to Doctor Strange, I'm now officially interested.

After getting a follow on Twitter from Anna Biller, writer/director & star of Viva (released on dvd by Shameless), I noticed she has a new film coming out called The Love Witch. It looks pretty good too.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention Stephen.

Definitely interested. I loved Viva.

The trailer reminds me of The Witches Mountain...but better.

No info at all I'm afraid. No release dates or info about anyone picking it up. Only know that it's had a few screenings at festivals since January. I did forward a link for the trailer to a certain company with a Back To The Future inspired name. Maybe if anyone likes it enough, they'll contact Anna and ask questions.

Hope so. Even Shameless, after all they released Viva.

I don't recall anyone who watched it not liking it.

I was reading about The Neon Demon in last month's Empire. Refn said he wanted to do a teen horror movie, and this is it.

Well, it will look lovely anyhow. Visionary though?

I'm really looking forward to Neon Demon. I loved Only God Forgives and Refn's aesthetic usually sits well with me so hopefully this will be good... perfume overtones aside ;)

Or, for the fans of HBO drama series, it's going to be interesting to see Stringer Bell and Robb Stark on the screen at the same time!

You can't have that film without Elmer Bernstein's classic music. Here's hoping it appears somewhere, even if it's during the end credits.

Plus it's more like The Magnificent Denzel and a bunch of nobodies. Where's the equivalent of McQueen, Bronson etal. I'm presuming Denzel is Chris.

It does actually look okay but it sure as shit ain't The Magnificent Seven, sorry.

Dear God! Vinnie Jones is in it. Did they have cockneys going round calling people wankers in the old west?

Having looked it up on IMDB, none of the characters have the same names as the 1960 film. They should have called it something else. Perhaps QT nicked their original idea. ;)

It's easy to be negative about a remake of a classic but considering the track record of remakes there's no wonder. Besides Fuqua's interpretation of The Equalizer was really poor in my opinion.

Yeah, he's the Chris character, I assume Pratt (well named) is the equivalent of Vin. I think they've renamed everyone though.

What are your thoughts on it Stephen? Do you like the original. You keep your likes and dislikes fairly close to your chest most of the time.

I really like the original. That reminds me, I fell asleep the other night replying to J Harker when he asked me if there are any films I actually dislike. To answer that one here, I can watch pretty much anything and get some enjoyment out of it, even if it's a film others think is awful. It's like people who analyse films and can explain what the makers are trying to say. I don't have a clue tbh. Case in point, I watch The Delta Force and all I see is a romp with Chuck Norris blowing shit up. Calum ripped into me because I like it. Says it's racist. I honestky didn't see that. All I saw was Chuck doing his thing. Same with RoboCop, all I see is a guy being resurrected and killing people, and funny. I'm honestly not very bright, I don't think deeply about anything I watch, amd can't put into words (apart from these) why I like anything.

You asked!

[emoji38] i didn't like to pursue the matter. Just that you rarely seen to post much in the way of reviews but clearly have quite wide and varied tastes as seen in the 'bought' thread. Heard you mention many films you love but never something you hate. Was just curious is all.
