After seeing films like Sunset Boulevard, Fanny & Alexander or Picninc at Hanging Rock it's quite hard to consider (for me at least) a Horror film to be really perfect even if there is some movies that has made a great deal of impact on me. The Exorcist and Let's Scare Jessica to Death for example.

In regards to horror, Alien, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, The Devil Rides Out, Peeping Tom, Psycho, Videodrome, and The Wicker Man would all be approaching perfection, for me. That's the interesting thing about this thread, though: so many differing opinions. |

Hitchcock is one of the guys I'd associate with 'perfect' films, although I don't like all of his films. As far as I'm concerned, three works from his oeuvre are top-notch and totally flawless: Rebecca, To Catch A Thief, and Psycho. They're not only 'perfect', but they have one specific feat each: - Rebecca runs over 130 minutes, and yet it has not a single redundant line of dialogue. - To Catch A Thief has sparkling eroticism between Grant and Kelly, with subtle undertones and without vulgar lapses. - Psycho shows how a movie with a perfect arc of suspense looks like. Greetings! |

Carpenter's The Thing is perfection for me.
