I think there's a difference between a comedy and a spoof. A spoof seeks to mock and parody their source material and are essentially negative. Comedies, on the other hand, are proactive in terms of generating humor, and not reactive like spoofs.

The Fearless Vampire Killers is clearly a spoof and yet I prefer it to any Hammer or Universal film. I guess in it's attempt to send up all the cliques, it became a "classic" in it's own right, at least to me, at a young age.

Can't stand Young Frankenstein though, does nothing for me.
