At long last this is on its way to Blu-ray, this from Richard Stanley himself:

Are there any plans for a Blu-ray release of DUST DEVIL?
Yes, DUST DEVIL will have an incarnation on Blu-ray soon. It will find its way back into Walmart again.

As much as I like Dust Devil (and Hardware, for that matter) I've always felt that Stanley was very, very strong visually but rather weak at actual storytelling. Dust Devil has some striking visuals and is quite mesmerising in its own way, but the story is almost non-existent and what plot there is borders on the incomprehensible. Nevertheless, I'd happily have this on Blu, I bet it will look amazing in HD.

Agree, found the film a little tough going due to lack of cohesive story but visually, aurally and atmosphere-wise DUST DEVIL is a work of art. And any film with the late, great Zakes Mockae in needs to be seen. When I first watched SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW as an impressionable teenager Zakes Mockae scared the living shit out of me lol. And he's great in DUST DEVIL too, and only slightly less creepy! He should have starred in more films.

I prefer Hardware as well, and yeah Dae you're right I found DD a little hard going as well.

It's probably too intellectual for me!

Welcome news though.

Yup, this one sent me to sleep also  liked the desert cinema bit though. Didn't like Hardware either - no Stanley Blus for me thanks . . .

I have the dvd but have not watched it yet. I must have a look and see do i fancy an upgrade to Blu Ray.

For some reason I've always confused him in my mind with Philip Ridley  was about to say 'oh wait, I did enjoy The Reflecting Skin' . . .

Don't you dare call me intellectual!

No, you're not alone, I've never been able to quite fully grasp what's going on in Dust Devil, even though I have a fairly good idea. I think.

I also prefer Hardware. However, Dust Devil is a great film, so this is very welcome news.

The US DVD of Dust Devil is like a career compendium for Richard Stanley, a digital treasure trove. A new Blu ray would have to try very hard to replace it.
