Symptoms (1974)

http://skyfall.a.ltrbxd.com/resized/...g?k=72cb02e9da

"I can hear things nobody else can" ...and so it begins.

Dreamy, taut slow-burn at its finest and most textural, Larraz's Symptoms is an autumnal equinox flower that refuses to rush to full-bloom, instead teasing you with its hazy photography and floaty score; an intricately-pieced methodical fever dream.

Angela Pleasence is core to the film's power to ensnare and draw you into the unfolding web of madness that plays out at its secluded country manor harboring memories of a dark past. Before you know it, the sheath of sanity falls like a gossamer thread and all that is left is to reflect.

I think I preferred it to The Suckling, even though both are long overdue a second watch.

Actually, The Suckling would probably make a good companion to Larry Cohen's It's Alive as a double bill of deformed baby films.

Watch all 3 Its Alive and have a quadruple deformed baby festival, plus Combat Shock just to lighten the mood.

Is anyone carving a pumpkin this year?

I can't decide yes or no. Usually when i do it pours down every Halloween and the candle never stays lit.

Here's my other ones. The first was quite primitive but i got more creative over the years.

I have watched all three It's Alive films in a day before, but didn't own The Suckling at the time. Maybe something to do later this year!
