30 Days Of Unseen Horror

Day 23

i0TzUtwGt1oz4nmraLwIwaJ64FO.jpg

Michael Radin is a young talented archaeologist who is going places until he comes into contact with an ancient mask that was used in tribal rituals. The mask carries a curse that once worn torments the person who wears it making the person do things they would never dream of doing in there normal lives and it also tortures the mind of the person who has made the mistake of trying on the mask. Michael can no longer handle the nightmare his life has become and he reaches out to his doctor for some help but when his doctor doesn't believe the story Michael returns homes and commits suicide but before he pulls the trigger he posts the mask to his doctor and noe it's his turn to have his life and sanity destroyed.

They did a great job making you feel like your the one that has tried on the mask watching this. The scenes inside the mask nightmare really gets inside your head with the penetrating music and frantic imagery of demons snakes sacrifice and the mask itself . I love any film that explores the breakdown of sanity the scariest thing that can happen to anyone is the failure of one's mind. Paul Stevens is fantastic as the doctor his longing for the mask he is like an addict craving his next fix you can see even when he is away from the mask he wants it he needs it knowing it's driving him insane he just can resist and the longer it goes on the more desperate he becomes.

Brilliant nightmareish story acted superbly with a great ending.

A must watch.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

A New York police constable played by Johnny Depp is sent to the village of Sleepy Hollow to investigate the murder and decapitation of three of its citizens. Once there he learns of the mythical ghostly Headless Horseman whom the locals are sure is the killer.

Once again working with his favoured actor in Depp, Burton also brought together the best of British - Miranda Richardson, Michael Gambon, Christopher Lee, Alun Armstrong, Richard Griffiths, Michael Gough and Ian Mcdiarmid. Christopher Walken gives a marvelous portrayal of the Horseman and Christina Ricci is the haunted heroine. With this deep pool of acting talent the film was never going to fail.

Burton perfects his love of Gothic imagery in Sleepy Hollow, from the misty woods to the numerous jack o' lanterns lighting the way. His greatest creation being the Horseman itself. A dark scary figure riding a pure black stallion, sound systems positively thunder whenever the horse charges into a scene. Burton hasn't skimped on the bloodletting either, with numerous decapitations seen on screen, as the films tag line suggests "Heads will roll" and they sure do.

The film is superbly photographed with editing that ramps up the excitement whenever the Horseman appears whilst letting the viewer see the on screen action. Composer and Burton regular Danny Elfman pulls out all the stops with a wonderful score.

It really didn't take Sleepy Hollow long to become a Halloween favourite and it's stayed like that to this day.

I can think of another who probably runs him close. One who seemingly just watches movies all night.

Glad you really enjoyed H20, Nordy. And with seeing all these sequels are also noticing every part that was ripped off by 2018's mess.

It's really crazy how much of the series they ripped off for one film not even a nod and wink to honour the other film just purely ripped them off all of them

Might have been okay but they totally ignored those films as if they never existed then ripped them off for their ideas.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End. 2007.

A group of reality show contestants find themselves in a battle of survival in the woods by the inbred cannibal family.

Director Joe Lynch takes the helm for this sequel and takes out some of the suspense that was in the first film and gives us more gore and bloody moments even right at the start mere 3-5 minutes we get a decent kill then becomes more creative kills. Henry Rollins plays the ex marine now reality T.V. survivalist and willing to shape up anyone. There is one or two cringe moments even with a mutant clicking his neck back into place, surprised that this went straight to video.

Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead. 2009.

A survivor from a boat rafting trip and a prisoner transfer bus crashes, they are being hunted in the back woods.

This should have had potential to be good, ok a lone survivor able to hide from "Three Finger" and had the brains to keep quiet, but the hardened prisoners who seem tough to withstand anything near end up turning on each other, all what the inbreeder had to do was sit back and enjoy the arguing. The killings were good and made it more enjoyable but atleast the fourth one was more enjoyable than this and worth checking out for your Christmas viewing.

The Nun

A priest and young woman who is about to become a nun are sent too investigate the suicide of a nun, once they get too there destination it's apparent that the nuns are hiding something ,soon spooky things start happening and death soon foloows.

Quite atmospheric and creepy did enjoy the final confrontation.

Annabelle creation

We found out how the evil doll come too be. A number of years after the death of his daughter , a man and his wife welcome a nun and a group of orphaned girls into their home. When one of the girls finds Annabelle the deaths starts and the demon in the doll looks for a soul.

Started of quite slow but picked up greatly in the second half, it all leads into the first movie.

The Conjuring

After a couple move into a new home spooky things start happening and as things get worse and they are frightened for their lives and those of their children they call in the Warrens experts on the supernatural.

Enjoyable with a nice build up but I really doubt how real this was and the Warrens themselves .

The Terrifer

The story is minimum it's just a excuse for Art the clown too goto one spectacle gruesome death to another . A brilliant piece of gore socked depravity.

Now watching

Not finished watching but we have a new horror icon. Shits all over the newer halloweens.

Devil. 2010.

A group of people trapped in a lift in a high rise building, amongst them is the Devil in human form, but everyone in the lift has something to hide.

From creator M. Night Shyamalan who wrote the story and produced this film and John Erick Dowdle takes the helm with the directors chair and able to create a good build up of claustrophobia, suspense, fear and paranoia in one place. We all know someone in the lift is the devil but it's the atmosphere outside the lift that creates more tension as to the background of the patrons in the lift, who has motive to hurt those around them. The acting is done decently with those inside the lift and outside the lift. I was hesitant about this when it came out but was surprised how good it went.
