Based on your updated list, here are a few I'd recommend:

- Alone in the Dark (1982)
- American Gothic (1987)
- Blood Diner (1987)
- Blood Rage (1987)
- Bloody Moon (1981)
- Don't Go in the House (1979)
- The Driller Killer (1979)
- Evil Dead Trap (1988)
- Fade to Black (1980)
- Hell Night (1981)
- Intruder (1989)
- Laid to Rest (2009)
- The Last Horror Film (1982)
- Night Warning (1982)
- Rituals (1977)
- Slaughter High (1986)
- Tourist Trap (1979)

Whoa what a list! These are all ones I recognize, so I'll have to give them a watch. Tourist Tra, Hell Night and Alone in the Dark were already on my watch listt, and I'm fairly sure Slaughter High was on the list of things I'd seen, but I'll check.

Can't wait to check some of those out, and I guess Laid To Rest must be as good as people say if it made your list being a modern movie.

I didn't rate Blood Diner much.

I'll dig it out and give it another go this week.

For me a slasher generally avoids outright supernatural, certainly avoids monsters or aliens. Slashers involve human monsters, monsters with the intelligence to realize that killing is wrong but simply not care. Or at least not care enough to stop.

Or at least care enough to not stop so we have something to watch

It's a fun homage to HGL's Blood Feast. It is quite goofy, but I do rate it quite highly. Hopefully you'll enjoy your revisit, Dem.

Laid to Rest is probably (slightly) to an acquired taste but I really enjoyed it (some ropey acting aside). The killer is probably the most memorable I've had the pleasure to witness in a slasher film for quite a long time too.

I was tempted to list Gutterballs, but in my experience that is very much to an acquired taste so purposefully left it off.

Gutterballs has seriously caught my interest, with it's homage posters and it's interesting sounding elements, but the idea of the rape scene has put me off as bit, as has seeing a scene where two people are suffocated using the others genitals. (Impressive suffocation make up though, very realistic.

As for Laid To Rest, you make it sound good to me, so it's on the list

Ooh I really like that definition, that's certainly one to remember!

Kinda excludes all the Halloween sequels though in that case.
