Default Killer Clowns

Hi all,

Any sane person is utterly terrified of clowns. With their painted-on demonic grin, giant feet to squash your hopes and their blood-red noses.

There's a handful of clown movies out there with some freaky killer clowns and, with the release of the depraved new film Clown (who has an appetite for children...), here's a thread to chat about all things clown!

From real life Clown horrors to freaky movie clowns and those in literature and TV. What clowns come to mind?

Oh and just because, here's my odd clown costume from a few years back

I'm always a bit disappointed by clown-horror. It's been done to death, but, like other horror perennials such as dolls and mannequins, it still feels like the potential's there. 'Dead Clowns' is a really odd, really bad movie about zombie clowns. 'All Hallow's Eve' has some messed up gory clown action. '100 Tears' is also pretty heavy on clown-splatter. I guess the Gacy stuff still creeps me out. I remember a family heirloom from my childhood, which was basically this Victorian clown-doll with a messed up face partially enveloped by what looked like century-old chewing gum, and vaguely recall a strange event involving other kids in the neighbourhood being really upset by the doll and running around in the garden, crying... which reminds me, going back over to films, there's the enigma of that supressed Jerry Lewis movie, 'The Day The Clown Cried'.

If we do not limit this to films, I would like to add the Clown of the latest season of American Horror Story (Freak Show) - that Clown gave me the creeps and made me order the BD of Roth's Clown at zavvi, hoping that it's good and that it will not drop in price ;-)

Got to agree with you there sadly, Frankie. There are some real gems like IT, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, HO1C and Clown - as well as Poltergeist (that kind of counts right?), but it's a shame there's not more awesome ones!

It's just like evil scarecrow movies - there's hardly any yet the idea could be brilliant.
