Question French Horror: Your Top 5

Bonjour,

C'est bein?

Since around the 2000's, there has been a small movement from France of some excellent horror movies. Often incredibly brutal and violent, they can make for some pretty tough viewing!

But which French horror movies have you seen?

What would your top 5 be (in order)? Let us know yours below...

Anyone looking forward to seeing Dead Shadows? It's very similar to early Cronenberg and Romero, with plenty of gore and STD alien-zombies! More info at - Announcement: Dead Shadows

By a stroke of uncannily good timing, I've only recently completed this list of my Top French horror films on Letterboxd.

It's ordered chronologically, but my Top 5 would be:

1. Les Diaboliques (1955)
2. Eyes Without a Face (1960)
3. The Iron Rose (1973)
4. Don't Deliver Us from Evil (1971)
5. The Grapes of Death (1978)

I've seen about 3 French horror films hah, a couple of Jean Rollin ones on old Redemption video cassettes, I don't know which so don't ask! I have seen Possession and it's one of my favourite films and although it's made with French money I always consider it German/Polish...

I'd vote for Irreversible but it's not technically a horror film!

I've never really considered Possession 'French' with it being A French / West German co-production directed by a Pole!

A fantastic film though.

Calvaire is pretty decent - it's Belgian though.
