My Weekly Video Nasty Podcast - Born Nasty
 

Hey, guys! Sorry it's been so long. Life got in the way of things (Girlfriend etc.), but circumstances have changed and I'll hopefully be here a bit more often.

I've just started a new podcast called "Born Nasty". SO far, we've only made an introductory episode, but once a week, we'll discuss a randon Video Nasty at length (amongst other things, more than likely).

I didn't know where to upload the podcast, so I spent a day making it a wee video and posting it on YouTube. It was a lot of fun to make, as talking about films and music is pretty much all I do, so I now have 50% of that covered :D Any feedback is more than welcome :)

I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts via iTunes while I travel to and from lessons, makes a change from listening to music on Spotify, so you might wanna try and see how to get it on there or Soundcloud (which is as easy as uploading a video to YouTube)

SoundCloud is so expensive though, isn't it?

It’s free, I’ve been uploading tracks to it for years (not for ages though because I don’t have time to make music these days) and have never been asked for a penny. There is a premium service, but you can upload stuff on there for nothing and still have plenty of traffic :nod:

That’s about average for a podcast, one of the main ones I listen to (The Horror Show) is about 1 hours 15 minutes long each weekly episode :nod:

Thank you. I sometimes listen to The Hysteria Continues and I've seen some of their episodes pushing 2 1/2 hours.

David Hamilton Grant was jailed for distributing a slightly longer Nightmares In A Damaged Brain.

A sad day in this country.

If he broke the law at the time then that is how it is.

The fact that somebody was sent to prison for releasing a film on video just goes to show how ridiculous the whole situation was back then :nod:

On 3 February 1984, Grant was imprisoned for distributing ‘video nasty’ Nightmares in a Damaged Brain (1981) on video. Grant was sentenced to 18 months in prison (later reduced to 12 months) for being in "possession of over 200 copies of an obscene article for publication for gain", he was found guilty under section two of the obscene publications act. Grant’s defense lawyer during the trial was Geoffrey Robertson. After Grant’s imprisonment, World of Video 2000 (and its parent company April Electronics) were placed into liquidation.

Yeah.....?? Are you saying that because he broke section 2 of the obscene publication act, that he deserved to be declared a criminal and sent to prison? I might be picking you up wrong and I apologize if so but if you ARE saying that then with the greatest of respect, you are wrong in my opinion. That's how they got you back then. Some of the Video Nasties were declared obscene....32 or something like that... and then if you were caught with a copy or in this case, distributing copies, you are done under the obscene publication act.

The big problem now, as back then, is the definition of obscene and to prove such in a court of law. What is obscene? It is different for every person. I may think something is fine that you believe is obscene. Who's right? And why? 30 years ago NIADB was classified obscene. How could anyone declare it so, what criteria was utilized and how does it become a standard to be measured against? It can't. Full stop. History proves it. To put a man in jail for owning a film(s) that is available all over Europe and America, is a deplorable misuse and interpretation of the act. This is government controlled propaganda enforced by the courts. Utterly shameful.

Now obscene material regarded by the act is generally pornographic in nature and of the more extreme variety, I'm sure some members here, cough-MTDS-cough-Inspector-cough,:hail::hail: will know far, far, faaaaarrrrr more than me!

That is what the law said back then and when you break the law you must pay the price.

If you are fined then you pay it or you do not,if you pay it then no problem but if you do not then there is a penalty for not paying that fine right?

The irony of this is, the Video Recordings act (1984) was never signed by the European Commission, therefore, could never be legally enforced. So anyone fined or imprisoned for distributing a "Video Nasty" should never have been in the first place.

So the people who were punished, whether it was a fine or jail time, never should have been. That dude lost a year of his life because of a government fuk up. He did nothing illegal, yet you think it was just?!

That proves fuk all, because the law shouldn't have been enforced in the first place. iAny punishment served to so-called offenders was illegal. It's like being arrested for buying a packet of cigarettes for yourself.
