The Best Of British Horror Thread Whats your favourite Brit Shocker/culter/exploiter of all time? What brings you fond memories of your choices? |
That's 100 British cult classics there,I could have put a lot more....it just shows you, when it comes to shockers,we're up there with the best of them....:woot: |
I voted Prey. I like Warren's films, especially Inseminoid and Prey so as Inseminoid wasn't there I picked my 2nd favourite N J Warren film Prey. EDIT- SORRY , Inseminoid was there, i've a thumping headache and scrolling down a screen of 100 names was a blur to me. Im happy enough with prey though. |
Inseminoid is there Vip's......;) |
And by the way folks, one of the quiz answers is in there-100 guesses=100 hours...... |
I voted Satan's Slave. |
Went with 'The Abominable Dr. Phibes', big fan of that film. Also kind of partial to 'Lair of The White Worm' and 'House On Straw Hill'. Got a bit of a soft spot for 'The Blood Beast Terror', it's more shockingly bad than shocking :D Great fun though. |
Remember you can vote for more than one title...... So why did you choose what you did,can we expand on your choices please?:) |
Lots of great stuff here, but I've gone for five: Dracula - Chris Lee is Dracula. Nuff said. Tales From The Crypt - By far the best anthology I've ever seen. Real comic book horror. Brilliant. Frightmare - Fantastic. Totally unique feel to this. Sheila Keith is superb. Satan's Slave - Excellent witchcraft tale. Another great performance from Michael Gough. Plague Of The Zombies - One of the best ( and most influential ) zombie flicks ever made - and one of Hammer's very best, too. Honourable mentions also go to Curse Of Frankenstein, Quatermass And The Pit and Twins Of Evil among others. :) |
I'm surprised you haven't got the excellent 10 RILLINGHTON PLACE on there. |
Dracula/Brides Of Dracula classy films with wonderful performances, direction, music as well as excellent & imaginative set designs on limited budgets too. Hands Of The Ripper more classy performances,a haunting score & a sad ending. Quatermass & The Pit .Probably the best British sci-fi film with Andrew Keir & Barbara Shelley on fine form. Plague Of The Zombies excellent cast & the classic & influential dream sequence. |

Might do !;) |
Woah that is a very long list & I've only seen about a dozen of them! *shock horror* :ack: I voted Vault of Horror, which, although I haven't seen for a long time, I remember enjoying, and it's got Doctor Who in it! I love the other anthologies from that time too, House that Dripped Blood, Asylum etc. |

Tortune Garden was a disappointment after all the rest....:( |
Shameless - Brit Shockers Been looking at the ideas for new flavours of Shameless. Rather than adding them to the same thread I'd thought I'd start a new one so here goes... http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k..._shameless.jpg http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...peepingtom.jpg |
Lovely idea! I hope we can fly the Brit flag one day - just so damn seductive these Italians. |
Great idea Dougal.....THE SQUEEZE?;) |

1 Attachment(s) Oops.........:o Vince,I desperately need your censorship detective skills mate... |
Love that Witchfinder cover:) |
Best Of British Apologies if this thread already exists, but I couldn't find one like it when I searched. With all the 'nu-horror' and remakes these days British horror, both classic and recent tends to get overlooked. So what are everyone's favourite British horror films, and why? |
"The Devil Rides Out"-I love both the film and the book.Lee has never been better in my opinion.A must for the gentleman occultist. "The Witchfinder General"-a bleak and misanthropic view of man and violence. It has one of the best endings to a film ever. Check out the two cds of wonky folk music using samples from both of the above films from English Heretic. "Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon"-like "The Devil Rides Out" another good occult based horror.I really like the look of this film. "Blood on Satan's Claw"-the fun "Witchfinder General." "Psychomania" what's not to like! |
Quatermass And The Pit Theatre Of Blood Peeping Tom The Wicker Man Haunted House Of Horror (a guilty pleasure of mine) Satan's Slave Death Line Night Of The Eagle Fiend Without A Face |
Shit.It looks as if Redemption's new R1 release of PREY has been delayed and I've sold me old one.....:headbang: |

As for British horror's I am a firm fan of the classics.... My personal faves are: - The Abominable Dr Phibes - And Soon the Darkness - The Brides of Dracula - The Curse of Frankenstein - The Devil Rides Out - The Devils - Don't Look Now - Dracula Has Risen From the Grave - Frankenstein Created Woman - Horror of Dracula - The House That Dripped Blood - The Innocents - Inseminoid - Killer's Moon - The Mummy (1959) - Night of the Eagle - Prey - Repulsion - The Revenge of Frankenstein - Satan's Slave - Schizo - Terror - The Wicker Man As you can see by my choices I'm a huge Norman J. Warren and Hammer (particularly Terence Fisher) nut! I do love a bit of classic Brit-Horror! |
Where's Xtro? :D In the absence of a voting choice for Dracula Has Risen from the Grave I went with Witchfinder General - a fine performance from Price and superb direction by Reeves. An absolute classic. |
I actually sat through XTRO last week and must say for all it's daftness,it's far better than I remember it.:) |
I still enjoy Xtro. The UK DVD seems to be missing a few brief scenes that are in the old video versions. And of course what yuletide is complete without Don't Open Till Christmas? :D |
The German edition's complete mate. The alternative ending is far better than the one one used in cinemas. |
And of course what yuletide is complete without Don't Open Till Christmas? :D[/QUOTE] Class.Sheer class.Absolutely hilarious. This should be included in the Monty Python thread.:D |
Yep it's an amazing film. After noticing the headlines announcing the mysterious killings of 3 Santa's........ "Do you think we might have a psychopath on our hands?" "Its early days yet for a pattern" |
Edmund Purdom takes a lot of stick. The guy's an unsung genius.:D Santa's being mutilated-outrageous. Am I right in saying this was the first Santa-slasher? |
Purdom also popped up in Pieces and Absurd. A far cry from his Hollywood years in The Student Prince and The Egyptian. Caroline Munro's funky disco number always cracks me up. :D |
