Maybe Reaps could combine the two as that one seems to have died?
Not really surprised really as there's only 8 choices for "best giallo"...
Yeah, I did a double take when I saw only eight choices!

It would be great to have a more in-depth gialli thread.

I also like to watch gialli several times (over time) as there's always more to discover.
It's also a genre you have to grow into it seems.
Like I watched Autopsy (with Farmer) years ago before I even knew about gialli and didn't like it.
I now recently watched it again and loved it.
I'd also never heard of gialli; until around the mid to late 1990s when I checked out Suspiria - which I don't really consider a giallo myself, but appreciate that many people do (especially when backed up by the excellently named Giallo-fantastico description, above ). Suspiria was fantastic, and I was instantly hooked and subsequently tore through Argento's catalogue before moving further afield to the likes of Martino, Lenzi, Miraglia, etc. ...

I think the first 'traditional' gialli I watched was The Bird with the Crystal Plumage - and it still remains a firm favourite today.

Considering I'd never heard of it 15 years ago, (I think when I first heard the term 'Giallo' I thought it was a director's name - further reading and research into the subject put me straight pretty quickly ) I now consider it my favourite genre of cinema.

I could happily watch gialli all day, and agree that re-watching (even after the usual 'reveal' is known) always adds something new to the viewing (even if it's just a 'spot the J&B product placement' ).

Oh my,the J&B connection!

Personally I like to collect as many gialli on dvd as possible.
Which reminds me...The Dead Are Alive is out on US dvd!
Will have to get that one...

My favorite giallo (before I really started to get into them) used to be Tenebrae.
But nowadays a lot has changed...

Me too. I also need to pick up The Dead Are Alive, and pretty quickly too, considering Code Red are due to fold next year...

I love Tenebrae, and for the most part it is still my favourite giallo, although I've come to appreciate a lot of the lesser known titles over the years, and have enjoyed what the breadth of the genre has to offer.

It's a real shame that there are so many decent gialli that haven't been released (either widely, or at all) on DVD yet.

I'm hoping Shameless will release a few more...
Just ordered The Dead Are Alive.
I think it's Code Red's second giallo release (the other being the funtastic The Weekend Murders).

Off to watch the new dvd of Blood and Black Lace now! (I didn't manage to do that yesterday)

Nice grab on TDAA.

The Weekend Murders is a fun film - it's a shame Code Red are going, as I'm sure they would have released many more interesting niche films had they carried on.

Enjoy Blood and Black Lace - I have to admit it's a while since I last saw it myself.

Watched the new Anolis Blood and Black Lace and it looks the same picture quality wise as their older release (best version around).
The newly added English dub is the same as the one used on the VCI disc.
But it sounds a bit better here.

I personally do prefer the Italian or German dubs (also included).
Just because the actors speak Italian or German in this one.

It's a bit of a shame they didn't keep the English subs from their velvet release.
But I guess most people who bought that one (for a high price) wouldn't have been too pleased about it...

Oh anyone noticed the sped up scenes (antique shop),the VCI has them also (since it uses a master provided by Anolis).
What's that all about?
I mean they're short and not really distracting but why are they sped up?
Another mystery...

Thanks BE,The Dead Are Alive is missing 20 secs of sex (cut from the US release it seems) but it's in English.
The uncut version is available on a German dvd (not English friendly).

I also really enjoyed The Weekend Murders.

The new German Blood and Black Lace disc (with hidden English audio) is available to order at OMG:
Blood and Black Lace - Hardbox Series OMG Entertainment
A bit more expensive than DTM but their shipping is cheaper and they're a lot faster.
Elektrocity also has it but the shipping is more expensive I noticed.

Just gave Tenebrae another spin (been a while) and it was really nice to watch this again.
This return to the classical giallo by Argento has a very relaxed feel.

I have the Dutch dvd but I think it could definitely be improved upon.

Strsnge that Code Red would use a cut print, but I guess it comes down to price and availabilty. I'll still be picking this one up, as well as a few others of their's before they fold.
