I've seen quite a few gialli imyself, and have only really come across one that I wouldn't care to watch again - The Pyjama Girl Case. I found it very tedious and uninteresting to be honest.
The Pyjame Girl Case was the first one i ever saw (on vhs from Redemption films) it got me into the whole genre.

I actually don't mind The Pyjama Girl Case but it's not one of my favourites -- they would have to be Tenebrae, Deep Red, The Black Belly of the Tarantula and even What Have They Done to Your Daughters?.

Actually, I love just about every giallo that Dario Argento has made, from The Bird with the Crystal Plumage all the way through to Opera. Hell, even The Card Player has its moments but I wouldn't call it one of my all-time favourites.

Don't even get me started on Fulci, whose most accomplished films (Don't Torture a Duckling and Lizard in a Woman's Skin), are both gialli.

Woman in a lizards skin has to up there in my top 5, if only for the early dream sequences that show off fulci's talent for evoking a dreamlike atmosphere to the full. I would really love it if a company like shameless could stick a collection of gialli's together for us fans to pick up and have a marathon session of old favourites and ones we've never got round to.

I think if it had of been the first one I saw, it probably would have put me off the genre for good!

But seriously, it isn't atrocious by any means and I still have my DVD - if only for completist sake.

I'm a big fan of Lizard too - definitely one of Fulci's best films.

If you don't already have it, you should definitely check out the recent Optimum release of Lizard which has much better AV quality than any other DVD currently available.

What Have They Done To Your Daughters? is one of the best out there IMO.

The Dallamano films I've seen are all worthwhile.

I'm embarassed to say I haven't picked up the Optimum release yet.

I think the possibilty of a future Blu-Ray has prevented me from doing so... for now. I do have the Shriek Show release but have heard (and seen) that Optimum's version is far superior.

It looks and sounds so much better than the Shriek Show with much crisper audio and PQ with much better contrast levels and more solid and vibrant colours. It's also reasonably cheap at about (I think) £7 delivered from most places.

Dallamano's 'Schoolgirls in Peril' trilogy is certainly essential viewing for any giallo fan. I hope that we'll see a UK release of Enigma Rosso in the near future.

Solange is by far my personal favourite of the three, though. Mainly because it is the most giallo-like (the other two entries are definitely more towards the 'Poliziesco' side of the spectrum). Morricone's haunting score is also a bonus.
