Fave Zombie Film?

the title says it all, what is your Fave walking dead film. Just want to get a feel for what we all like....

Mine is an obvious choice i know but it's Romero's Dawn Of The Dead.

Stephen@Cult Labs 8th August 2010 02:57 PM

Such a hard choice but it's probably betweeen Re-Animator and Dawn Of The Dead.

the blob 8th August 2010 03:02 PM

Dawn for me too. although where are the '30s and '40s Zombies? It's a different class of Zombie. A more accomplished Zombie for a more elegant age..

Oh, Plague Of The Zombies is above some of those for me too..

pedromonkey 8th August 2010 03:16 PM

ive put an option at the bottom for others, the 9 that ive listed are ones that i consider more obvious choices...

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 8th August 2010 03:18 PM

The original NOTLD for me. The Beyond would be very close behind, though.

BioZombie 8th August 2010 03:50 PM

Hard to choose between ZFE and DOTD, eventually went for Day.

Also I dont think Evil Dead really counts as a zombie film.

Yeah, I can't imagine anyone choosing 'White Zombie' or 'I Walked With A Zombie'. Even I'd still go for Dawn. :)

you know what? ive never seen either of those and they completely skipped my mind....

Make Them Die Slowly 8th August 2010 10:26 PM

I've gone for "The Beyond" but had "Burial Ground" been on the list...

the blob 8th August 2010 10:34 PM

If Zombie Creeping Flesh had been on the list....

I would have shot myself.

Vampix 9th August 2010 02:52 AM

Difficult decision for me as I love Zombie Flesh-Eaters, City of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead & Re-Animator.I've also got soft spots for Return of the Living Dead, Burial Ground, Zombie Creeping Flesh & The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue.

mbv 9th August 2010 07:06 AM

Zombie Flesh eaters for me although Zombie Holocaust is up there for me

vipco 9th August 2010 10:58 AM

Very hard Poll but I opted for ZFE over Dawn OTD. Thank goodness Zombie Creeping Flesh wasn't there as that would really have made my decision harder.

I forgot to mention Zombie Holocaust, I also have a soft spot for this cheesy splatterfest. :)

Me too.

Also Let Sleeping Corpses Lie is another favourite of mine. I also have muchos love for de Ossorio's Blind Dead films.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 9th August 2010 05:44 PM

Love all of those listed, but the foreboding, misty atmosphere of CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD gets me everytime.

I actually prefer it to Romero's Dawn and Day films. It has a great atmosphere to it.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 9th August 2010 05:51 PM

Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue is also superb, and ranks very highly.

As does Tombs of the Blind Dead and Return of the Evil Dead.;)

Nice to see some more support for the Spanish zombie flicks. :thumb:

Hugh 9th August 2010 07:19 PM

^ That one up in the corner.

But you knew that if you'd seen the "Double Dipper" thread in the members collections part of the site.

dis 9th August 2010 07:31 PM

zfe! think evil dead is more demons than zombies, this would be 1st if were a proper zombie!

pedromonkey 9th August 2010 09:51 PM

im surprised at the amount of votes for ZFE, it's a good film but for me it ranks nowhere near Dawn.

I wonder if it's an age thing or the fact that ZFE has a shark fighting a zombie, surely one of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema.

Inspector Tanzi 9th August 2010 10:28 PM

Dawn of the dead is my favourite Zombie film.

I actually prefer The Beyonf but I wouldn't really class it as a zombie film although it has some in it.

I wouldn't class either TED or The Beyond as Zed movies. What classifies as Zombie film for me, is dead people returning to life and consuming the flesh of the living. TED is demonically possessed people. The demons would only consume flesh for kicks, like tearing off their own hand;)

The Beyond only had "zombies" in because the German financiers/distributors insisted on it based upon Fulci's previous output. I still belive that they are more likely physical ghosts.

I've chosen DOTD because it is such a rich movie. ZFE is superb and a close second. TBH it depends what mood I'm in.

That's just the portrait of the modern zombie though that Romero created. Zombies, in anywhere near their original form, weren't flesh eating monsters. :D

I realise that. That's why I put the "for me" in the original sentence.:tongue1::)

Mojo 12th August 2010 08:40 PM

City Of The Living Dead for me. Everything about this film is just wonderful.

Romero's original NOTLD would be next - still utterly chilling.

I would have put Hammer's Plague Of The Zombies on there too. Superb - and very influential.

Vampix 13th August 2010 01:26 PM

I've always found NOTLD a little dull for some reason, I, personally, much prefer Dawn & Day.My absolute favourite would probably be Zombie Flesh Eaters, with Day of the Dead running it a very close second. My love of ZFE is probably for nostalgic reasons as much as the blood & gore.As it was one of the first video nasties I ever rented back in the pre-cert days, and opened my eyes up to a whole new world of graphic horror flicks after having only watched older horror movies (Hammer, Amicus, etc) on TV before.

I know what you mean about NOTLD, I have the same lack of enthusiasm when considering watching it, but as soon as it rolls, I get right back into the movie. It truly is a masterpiece. I just prefer DOTD.:)

Zombie_Matt 18th August 2010 12:04 AM

I love the Re-animator from the first time I watched it as a kid till now. So i voted Re-Animator.

darthelvis 20th August 2010 12:22 PM

Dawn of the Dead for me without a doubt.

vipco 28th August 2010 03:38 PM

Does anyone remember a zombie film called Gamma 639 by Joel M Reed (Blood Sucking Freaks) .?
Its about the Americans using dead nazi soldiers.
Pretty daft and not much happens in it but for some reason I quite liked it .

pedromonkey 29th August 2010 01:38 AM

ive made a countdown of my top 22 favourite zombie films, some of the choices will be slightly controversial but check it out anyway, ignore the spelling i was typing fast and im quite sleepy....

PEDRO'S TOP 22 ZOMBIE FILMS

let me know your thoughts...

shawnduhast 4th September 2010 03:12 PM

ZFE is not as good as DotD but I voted for it for nostagia reasons as well, although Dawn is a very close 2nd followed by The Beyond which I also agree is as much a zombie movie as The Evil Dead which would be 4th!

I first saw ZFE at an old cinema in Aldershot in 1983 at a 10pm showing and although I could not understand what all the fuss was about as it had hardly any gore in it at all being the BBFC approved version with 4mins & 20sec censored, but I was still nervous walking across the dark car park afterwards.

Then I rented the Vipco Strong Uncut Version on VHS and even though it was P&S wow now I knew what the fuss was all about!! I still have the copy I eventually bought of the Strong Uncut Wisescreen Vipco VHS that was only available at fairs as well as my ShriekShow version on DVD only now awaiting the Arrow BD version as Blue Underground have been confirmed to be releasing ZFE or Zombi on BD in 2011:clap:

Brilliant list Pedro! Some of the films surprised me, but I can see why you chose them - all of the films are brilliant!

shawnduhast 4th September 2010 04:09 PM

Have to agree it's a brillient list Perdro but I, obviously ;), would have them in a different order.

Outpost is just ace and usually under most peoples radar.
Versus I'm now going to make an effort to see.
RE also a guilty pleasure for me too.

I would add Dead Snow and Mutants.

dead snow ive seen only once so i think a repeat viewing is on the horizon and Mutants is just sat on my shelf waiting to be watched...

i love the RE films, they're just dumb fun and pass 90 minutes quite nicely.....

Also known as NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES Vip's.
Yeah, zero budget but I liked it as well.
It stars Porn stud Jamie Gillis as the FBI agent!

The artwork shown below is one of the best designs ever!

Although it probably wouldn't sell many copies, this would make a terrific Arrow release......

One of those one's you'd release for your love of the genre....;)
