I think the BBFC banned the cinema release of Derek and Clive Get the Horn, but no issues with the dvd as far as I am aware.

It doesn't matter if it's still said - it's the context that informs your reaction. The difference between the use of, for example, racially slurs in a film that is nothing but racist propaganda Vs the same racial slurs used by a film's character who you're meant to dislike for being racist. What's said is still said in both cases but the context renders them completely different.

prob thinking of others

Well, maybe I was a bit harsh on Dani, but I still think that t-shirt was an exercise in juvenility.

It was called Midian as it was a concept album based on Clive Barkers Nightbreed, in which the location is called Midian. It also featured Doug Bradley on a few tracks not to mention the stunning 'Her Ghost in the Fog'

I also think Cradle of Fear wasn't a great film. But I did enjoy several albums from the band. They had some good concepts and ideas for albums, even if the marketing was sometimes lacking.

Daemonia 8th June 2012 05:46 PM

I never really warmed to the band, mostly because of the vocal style. Musically they're quite brilliant, vocals aside.

Rassilon 8th June 2012 05:51 PM

When I was younger I liked them, but was never a real goth or anything. I think they had great energy and liked how Dani could hold his voice live. But when it came to goth rock I was a Marilyn Manson fan more. Although nowadays I keep wondering...what the hell did I see in this.

klownz 7th June 2013 11:18 AM

I thought the film was okay & since Emily Booth is in it its always worth viewing just for her:cool:

Demoncrat 7th June 2013 02:06 PM

Midian wasn't their first album either. The film I tried so hard with, mainly due to the first segment....and its dullness imo. Though the sight of Ms Booth refreshed me somewhat.

Liked the internet segment most. Haven't seen Inbred.

Rik 7th June 2013 02:08 PM

I thought Cradle of Fear was shite TBH, Inbred is pretty good, but as a Yorkshireman, I did find it a tad racist

Inbred was a bit spoilt because of the humor, if he had played it straight it could have been a real winner, but overall it was still a lot better than Cradle Of Fear.

Here's a review I wrote for Cradle of Fear:

Cradle of Fear (2001)

Shite.

So did you like it or not? :pound:

SCM 7th June 2013 02:25 PM

I used to be a massive fan of Cradle of Filth; so when I saw the trailer for Cradle of Fear I was hyped. But because I was 14, I couldn't buy it. I finally watched and I think it is terrible

DrTerror 7th June 2013 03:36 PM

I finally watched this to the end last night, on what I think was my fifth attempt. If you haven't seen it and want an idea of what it's like, think of four episodes of Channel 5's Urban Gothic stitched together with a terrible wraparound story and starring a guy who's acting ability is actually worse than his musical ability. Very, very poor.

What more can you expect from Dani Filth, a member of a band that sought to mimic a genuinely transgressive form of music only to make it...Shite.

Rik 7th June 2013 04:39 PM

Never liked any of their music anyway, but hearing their utter shite cover of Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name paid to rest any thoughts of trying to get into them, they should take a leaf out of Machine Heads book when covering such a classic song from the NWOBHM!

Demdike@Cult Labs 7th June 2013 04:44 PM

Discussion on Cradle of Fear always comes down to slagging off Cradle of Filth.

It shows how crap the film must be as no one can say anything except Emily Booth and Cradle are shit.

:D

The only album that seemed almost decent was Midian and even at that it was only because Doug Bradley had a little bit.

I recently watched this again its not a great film but its not terrible i have seen much worse. Has anyone else got an opinion on this that does not involve Cradle of Filth :tongue1:

It's brilliantly gory and you can tell the ideas and ambition is there, just not the budget or story unfortunately.

The acting's a little underwhelming as well.

I was one who pre-ordered it from their website on vhs before it was made. Mainly due to the Cradle of Filth influence. Oops, sorry about that. ;)

First time i watched it i was disappointed but after a second watch i do appreciate it more. Like you said if there was a bigger budget whos knows what might have happened.

Rik 25th January 2015 02:54 PM

I very nearly bought the DVD of this an hour ago from CEX, but £3 was far too much to pay for it, if it had been a quid, then it'd be on my shelf now.

Only ever seen it once (think the Horror Channel showed it) and wasn't impressed to be honest, but I'm willing to give it another go, something that I can't say about Cradle of Shite :tongue1:
