Far scarier than a double dose of Corey's.

Pretty much everything about it was scary. - The entire moors/pub scenes - The Nazi dream sequence - And those underground stalking scenes All from a director of mainly excellent comedies. |

Watch it late at night with the lights out for the proper experience. Be prepared to jump!

I wouldn't say it scared me as such, but Eden Lake had me feeling on edge the whole time I watched it, I just felt relieved when it was finished. And The Texas Chain Saw Massacre gives me that whole uneasy feeling whilst watching it. The first time I saw it was in 1995 (I was 12) and it was a bootleg double VHS copy of the laserdisc plus all special features that cost me £25 of my birthday money from the local secondhand shop (under the counter of course!) I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was probably a Troma style 80's schlock fest with cut killings and a bit of gore. Obviously what I got was something completely different. I'd never seen anything like it, and to be honest, I still don't think I have. Incredible stuff |

My first ever horror scare was coming home late one night from a holiday, half asleep and then being rudely woken up by the chopped up body parts segment from Asylum'72. A few years later Halloween cemented my love for the genre forever. But when my brother switched off the TV at the end and the room went pitch black I swore the shape was in the corner. And I can never forget Mr Barlow with his creepy hissing and growling from Salem's Lot'79. *shiver* The only modern film to scare me since is the amazing finale from REC. But I will say as you get older and the threat of losing loved ones grows ever closer, some scenes from Horror films can have a greater effect on you.

I didn't see any horror films until I was in my mid- to late-teens and was genuinely affected by The Exorcist at the cinema, The Blair Witch Project on DVD and Cannibal Holocaust on DVD. The only horror film I can recall seeing as a child was Jaws and, when Ben Gardner's head drops into that hole in the hull, I'm sure I moved away from the TV! Even now, I find The Blair Witch Project to be incredibly unsettling and something like The Descent to be immensely claustrophobic and, as it's a film I watch with the curtains closed and all light sources covered or turned off, my eyes strain for light on the screen.
