Fascinating stuff. Thanks for posting that, Pete, and I look forward to watching Goodbye Uncle Tom so I can make up my own mind.

It will be interesting to read your opinions on all the films in the box you recently acquired. The godfathers of mondo docu will shed some more light on the makers. |

Yours truly went through something of a Mondo/'shockumentary' phase in the mid-‘90s with the Traces/Faces Of Death installments, the Death Scenes series (the book based on the first entry is an interesting read too.) and Shocking Africa all on the viewing menu among others. Nowadays however, i only really have the time for the aforementioned The Killing Of America. A dated effort but still endearing, enduring and entertaining. Also, for some excellent reading material on the Mondo/'shockumentary' subject i recommend mid-'90s publication Killing For Culture by Davids Kerekes and Slater. A fine tome and well worth tracking down.

Keep some glue handy as you might need to put your jaw back on when you've finished watching it The behind the scenes footage from 'TOM' is possibly even more disturbing, as it features footage of Jacopetti frolicking around a swimming pool with several semi naked children, which adds weight to the rumours of him being a pedophile. |

Really want to read KILLING FOR CULTURE but can never find a reasonably priced copy. |

GFOM is a good doc but it's could have probed Jacopetti on the pedophile rumours.

I also recommend Death Scenes:A Homicide Detective's Scrapbook. Another interesting tome with some seriously sobering stills and a great quote on the back cover: "Proof that there were no 'good old days'."
