Introducing a newbie to Classic Horror!
Next week, I'm going to meet an old friend of mine. He's quite a bit into Horror movies, but mainly modern horror Ã* la Saw or Hostel. That's why I will introduce him to some nice old Horror movies from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I'm pretty sure he knows Argento only by name, and Fulci sounds like an Italian sausage to him. So it's about time for him to dig into some real nice old-fashioned Horror. We will be spending almost a whole day together, so there should be time for at least six to seven Horror classics. As I don’t want to be too obtrusive, I will let him choose the films from the list below – after having given him a short introduction to each movie! Feel free to comment on this ‘plan’ of mine, or on my very subjective list of flicks. He's not faint-hearted, so I've chosen - among many classics - some pretty heavy stuff. I will post again by the end of next week - telling you about his (or more precisely: our) reactions. The bigger your interest in this thread, the bigger my final report. The list: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Witchfinder General Pieces Maniac The New York Ripper The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue Deep Red Inferno Tenebrae Phenomena City of the Living Dead The Beyond A Bay Of Blood Night of the Living Dead Dawn of the Dead The Evil Dead Nightmare City The Burning Nightmare Beach Zombie Flesh Eaters The Prowler I’m also thinking of picking one modern Horror movie from the following: Piranha 3D Storm Warning Switchblade Romance Mother of Tears Wolf Creek Cabin Fever Greetings! |

I'm hoping he picks: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Tenebrae City of the Living Dead Dawn of the Dead The Evil Dead The Burning Switchblade Romance Pretty much 90% of my mates hate horror, so horror viewing tends to be with the wife or on my own!

For the classics I'd go with: Witchfinder General The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Deep Red Dawn of the Dead The Evil Dead Zombie Flesh Eaters For modern-day horror: Piranha 3D Like Darth, most of my friends wouldn't give classic horrors the time of day (too boring, not gory enough & old-fashioned).So, I usually end up watching them on my own.

I discovered horror myself at a young age. No one told me what to watch and for a long time I thought I was the only person that had heard of fulci, argento. If someone had told me I had to watch certain films I might not have enjoyed them as much. We also should remember that the horrors of today will be the horrors of tomorrow. Saw and Hostel have a cult following and in twenty years perhaps shameless or arrow will release these on some new hologram format.

He normally buys his movies in big stores - he doesn't import anything, and most of his friends aren't into Horror either. That's why he's one of the Saw and Hostel generation - even girls watch those flicks today. Greetings! |
