The Single Scariest Scene in Cinema?

Hi all,

Here's an interesting (I hope!) question for y'all.

What is the single scariest SCENE in all of cinema?

One scene. Only one.

For me, there's no competition. It has got to be the Birthday party scene from Signs. This was the first 'horror' I saw in the cinema (at the age of 12) and it scared the heeby-jeebies outta me. And it still does! I'm not sure what it is about this particular scene - perhaps it's the build up, the fact it's hand held unlike the rest of the film, giving it a more realistic feel, maybe it's because it's the first time you actually see the alien in full - naked - beauty. Whatever it is, it works!

In fact, I still struggle to watch that scene now!

Dare you watch?

So, what's your scariest SCENE?

Probably the T-Rex car attack scene from Jurassic Park.

This was also my first taste of horror at the cinema, and the mixture of the fantastic cinematic surround sound, and the general cinema atmosphere made this a pretty nail-biting experience when I was a 10 year old! A fantastically tense scene, even by today's standards.

Oooh great call! Such a fantastic film and one of the greatest moments of cinema. It still looks impressive!

I can't think of any from cinema, but the "Bobby didn't want to come back...so he sent me instead" scene from Dan Curtis's TV film Dead Of Night proper shat me up when I was 10 or so.

Sorry, I have no idea how to embed the videos.

The corpse coming out of the hole in the boat in "Jaws". I would have been about 9 at the time and I can still picture the scene in my head with vivid detail.

This is one of the scariest films I can remember watching years back on VHS, The Changeling. The excellent George C.Scott was also in The Exorcist III, another top scary flick!

Sorry to digress, but...how do you get the videos to embed in the posts like that?
