Melancholie der engel

Let me start by saying that this is easily one of the most brutal films I have ever seen. Clocking in at over two and a half hours, “Melancholie der Engel” makes “A Serbian Film” look like it should get a PG-13 rating. Yeah, I’m serious.

I disagree. No way.

The animal killings also seem uncondonable to an animal lover like myself, but they are effective from a strictly artistic standpoint.

Nothing at all artistic about the animal killing. It was really unnecessary. It brought nothing to this movie.

I watched bits of it but since there was no subs I had no fooking idea what was going on.
I have it with subs now so will be watching it properly soon.

I've got this on the Shock dvd label with the slipcase and postcards, German lang no English subs.
This is NOT in the same ballpark as A Serbian Film. Or Mordum. Or Snuff 102. Or about a dozen other films.
The animal deaths; A lizard gets stepped on. A salamander gets squished between someone's fingers. The most disturbing is the slaughter of the pig. The cat looks well fake and they cut up a worm.
It's all very soft focus, you cannot connect in any way to the actors so therefore feel no empathy, it's not shocking or daring, it's just 2 and a half hours of shite.
Seriously, I mainly collect extreme films and this is wayyyy down the list.
If you really want it you can get it on Amazon.de. If you have trouble finding it by title, look up the director instead. 20 quid delivered.

There isn't much point getting or seeing it if you can't understand the language though, may as well down load it with the fan subs IMO.

i'm sure if you showed some "civillians" Srpski, they would think that that scene was real as well.

But for me, PASS. Men Behind The Sun was bad enough imo. Indeed in this day and age "being confrontational" has replaced any real attempt at substance, at least CH has a point to it, so in my mind it's justified, that is its been done, lets not rake over cold ash etc....

This echoes how I feel about a lot of these newer releases. Men Behind The Sun, CH, the Jacopetti/Prosperi Mondo movies..they all contained challenging material but that is not their sole value. The trend nowadays with this and from what I've heard of Morgue Street is to really up the ante with sexual violence and animal cruelty as gore doesn't push the boundaries anymore...but it reaches a point where I have to question what am I watching? Personally I'm not even curious to see either of them and I never thought I'd hear myself say that.

Reise Nach Agatis has been released on Werkmann filmverlag in Austria/Germany it comes on a 2 disc set with Debris Documentar which Melancholie der Engel supposed to be a remake of.
