Default Video Nasties

I'm new here, so I'm not sure if this has already been discussed.

I've just watched the 3 disc Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide. I bought it for £12 off Amazon.co.uk. It was the best bargain I have ever bought! It has a 65 minute documentary and the other two discs include an in depth discussion on all 72 video nasties which has a running time of about 7 hours.

I advise Anyone with even a passing interest in Video Nasties to buy this DVD. Even if you have no interest it's still worth checking out.

I'd like to discuss this with anyone else who has seen this and also find people's opinions on video nasties.

I'm hoping to own as many of the DPP 72 as possible.

You're not sure if Video Nasties have been discussed? You really haven't been here long, have you?

I detest the term myself, it's a shameful period of UK censorship history and it's high time we moved on IMO. A lot of people like to keep the term alive, but they're usually also the same people who think that practically every film on the list is shit - so what good's their opinion anyway?

As for the Nucleus release, it's very good. The documentary on it was informative and Morris and co managed to get a few surprising people in front of the camera - like Graham Bright himself. But I think this DVD should the final word on it now. I see no reason to keep dredging it up all the time - unless, of course, you're one who's built a career on writing about them. Guess those people want to keep the cashflow going!

If you don't already own them, and want to boost your collection, you can pick up Axe, Unhinged and The Bogeyman all uncut on R2 from Amazon marketplace fairly cheaply.

The Bogeyman is crap but the other two are pretty good modern, gothic thrillers, nothing like the more famous films in the list though.

Hi there and welcome!
Some people love them, some hate them but they just won't stay dead! I am of the former pursuasion! I have all 74 (Not 72!) on dvd but that includes 6 films on dvd-r as they have never been released anywhere. I actually have 81 of the banned list as back in the day a zine came out called In The Flesh which gave a "definitive" list including stuff like Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll, Abducted, Don't Answer the Phone, Hell Night, Love Camp, Other Side of Madness and Poor White Trash.
If I can help with anything, which version is uncut etc, just ask.
