I got this on line;
The Dutch Shock DVD is available semi-officially (the company were also responsible for its limited release in the 90s on VHS) - however the DVD is struck from the same master as the VHS and the image is poorly transferred thus giving rise to the above accusation of overexposure. Also the frequent lines 'imposed' are scratches on the 16mm source print - they are not there to purposefully age the film. The film was edited down from 153 mins by its backers The Thomas Brothers in the hope of making it more marketable. The film is unusual for its time as it is filmed in black-and-white and features graphic sexual acts. In terms of its intentional tastelessness, it could be compared to the films of John Waters.

So I could be wrong but I don't think the 153 min version has ever been available on dvd. I have the Shock dvd with a running time of 122 mins, don't think my brain could cope with 153!

Oh it's out there I'm pretty sure. Just not official DVDs. I think Thundercrack is the sort of film that I'd play in the background at a party. You can jump in and out of it when you want.

I've made a habit of watching weird shit over the years. It's difficult to pinpoint the strangest of them all, but some random suggestions would be:
A NIGHT TO DISMEMBER
ID (the Japanese freakfest from the director of the equally confusing / mind melting ORGAN, not the football hooligan britflick)
THE BOXER'S OMEN
REINCARNATION OF ISABELLE
EROTIC RITES OF FRANKENSTEIN
HELLGATE
NAKED BLOOD
LIQUID SKY
CALIGARI (the late eighties Rinse Dream version)
SKULLDUGGERY

There are loads more that don't spring to mind. Obviously, films like 'Eraserhead', 'Possession', 'Videodrome' and 'The Forbidden Zone' are all up there when it comes to weirdness.

Yeah great choice with Santa Sangre... Another strange gem is Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural , a Southern Gothic vampire flick from 1975...

Saw that in a tiny 'arthouse' cinema in Portsmouth, many years ago

Didn't stop me from going back the following night to see "Tetsuo 2"!

I liked BEGOTTEN but felt SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY tried too hard at it's weirdness. Anyone like ICE FROM THE SUN

Frankie Teardrop likes this.
