I don't think it's cut, but I think the colour-correction was all over the place. They sorted it out for the UK release, which uses the same master.

So far I've only seen Suspiria, Deep Red, The Bird With The Crystal Plumage, Inferno and Phenomena. Tenebrae is in the post and I also own Opera but it doesn't work unfortunately. The disc is in fine condition, so I think there must be an issue with my multiregion player. Still, here's hoping for a blu release of that. I want to see Opera still, as well as Cat O Nine Tails (will get the Arrow blu), Four Flies On Grey Velvet and Two Evil Eyes. I saw some of The Stendhal syndrome on TV, and saw the trailers for The Card Player and Giallo and I think I can safely assume recent Argento isn't worth watching. My fav is one of Deep Red, Bird and Phenomena. I love them all but for such different reasons. If I really had to choose I think it would be Deep Red for the amazing soundtrack, style, and the doll that made me jump out of my skin the first time I saw it. |

Absolutely any Argento is better than Transformers and films of that ilk though. |

Transformers and Argento shouldn't be mentioned in the same thread!

I watched Phantom of the Opera last night for only the second time. I really enjoyed it and don't really know why people are so critical of it. The sets are superb, particularly the caverns. Stivaletti's effects are well done and realistic looking. The acting on the whole was decent, Asia Argento giving possibly her best performance, and Julian Sands nicely understated take on the Phantom role. The only drawback i felt is the source material. I don't really like Leroux's story and it failed to sparkle here, likewise with Hammer's 1962 release. Due to this i don't see how the film can be judged alongside any of Dario's other films (i suppose it could be a prequel to Terror at the Opera). I could only compare it to films such as Bram Stoker's Dracula and films of that ilk. |
