Default Advice from the experts

Howdy guys,

I run a cinematography website, I cant link directly here because I haven't made enough posts, but if you google "film grab" you'll find it easily.

These past few months I've become really interested in the visual style of a lot of Giallo (or depending on how picky you are just Italian horror) movies, it started with Argento, then I got the Gates of Hell Trilogy by Fulci, and I just got The Fifth Cord which I absolutely loved.

I would be really interested in doing a Giallo month on the site and am just looking for some of the stronger visual movies you guys could recommend.

Many thanks

ME

Any 70s Argento, Sergio Martino, his Strange Vice is a corker, Mario Bava's sense of Cinema is also top notch.
Welcome in by the way.

My recommendations for really good Gialli to sink your teeth into would be:

The House with Laughing Windows
Deep Red
Bird with the Crystal Plumage
Opera
Tenebrae
The Blood Stained Shadow
The Case of the Bloody Iris
The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh
Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
The Case of the Scorpion's Tail
The Black Belly of the Tarantula
Don't Torture a Duckling
Torso
The Psychic (Seven Notes in Black)
Perfume of the Lady in Black
Short Night of the Glass Dolls
Lizard in a Woman's Skin
The Red Queen Kills Seven Times
The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave
The Killer Must Kill Again
Death Walks at Midnight
Death Walks in High Heels
Eyeball
The French Sex Murders
My Dear Killer
Watch Me When I Kill
The Pyjama Girl Case
Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion
Blood and Black Lace
A Bay of Blood
5 Dolls for an August Moon
The Girl Who Knew Too Much
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion
Who Saw Her Die?
Seven Blood Stained Orchids

Some lesser Gialli are also worth checking out:

Body Puzzle
Photos of Gioia
A Blade in the Dark
Spasmo

Those would be my recommendations to get you started.

The ones which are particularly strong visually from my list would be (going purely from memory):

The House with Laughing Windows
Deep Red
Bird with the Crystal Plumage
Opera
Tenebrae
The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh
Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
Perfume of the Lady in Black
Short Night of the Glass Dolls
Lizard in a Woman's Skin
The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave
Death Walks at Midnight
Blood and Black Lace
A Bay of Blood
5 Dolls for an August Moon
The Girl Who Knew Too Much
Photos of Gioia

And one I forgot to mention earlier, which is visually very striking, is All the Colors of the Dark. An absolute must-see IMO.

Btw - all the above are available on DVD and a couple on BD too.

I'm still working my way through all the Giallos, so if I come across any that I think fit the bill, I'll post in this thread.

I can only echo what Daemonia said as he listed just about every visually striking giallo. Incidentally, the plural of giallo is gialli, not giallos!

I used to consider myself a Giallo fan, that was until I read Dae's list and realised I haven't seen half of them!
