Nightmare Castle - The Barbara Steele Thread. I first saw this film in the Mill Creek 50 Horror film set. So the film stood out to me, I watched it in bed one night and I enjoyed its creepy atmosphere and Barbra Steele made a brilliant performance. So I was wondering what are your thoughts on the film? |
Italy+Barbara Steele+1960s= goodness, I like all the Freda, Bava and Margheriti films she did, look the rest of em up BOF, you won't be disappointed if you like NC. |
I keep meaning to pick up the Severin dvd of this as its a restored gorgeous print. I'm just so familiar with it as it seems to appear on every Mill Creek set i buy that i never get on with it. |
It was Nightmare Castle that introduced me to Barbra Steele |
BARBARA STEELE, Euro gothic goddess, enough reason to watch this movie. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...ps5b863d5a.jpg |
I originally thought she was a low budget film star and all she was in was low budget films, I didn't know she was a mega star of horror |

I'll go through her filmography to see if I can buy her films on dvd |
Might watch this tonight |
Had a quick search and we don't seem to have a thread dedicated to this lovely queen of the macabre. So with a bit of title editing - We do now. |

Ugh, too bad it is region B, i do have the KINO blu ray though, just a simple 1 disc with only the same features as the DVD. I hate how most of her releases in the US do not try to include her in the bonus features. |
Nightmare Castle (1965, Mario Caiano) Paul Mueller looks quite dashing with a whip in his hands  The best laid plans and all that .... Scientific bod catches missus at it and loses his cool somewhat .... The best film Bava never made. |
Long Hair Of Death (1964, Antonio Margheriti) It's been a while. A cavalcade of shenanigans all centred round some poshos. To be fair, if I had been cursed by someone I had framed for murder, I'd put my hands up, as I've seen how these things usually pan out. But, that's the idolent rich for you ... so sit back and enjoy this slightly stilted (awful dubbing cough) classic. The Steele looks alternately alluring and other worldy incarnate natch. |
1 Attachment(s) Terror Creatures From The Grave (1965, Massimo Pupillo) When a lawyer is sent for by ... a dead man, you know it's not a Brian Rix film :skull: A somewhat lively bunch festoon a stately home, all waiting for the will to be read etc etc. BS plays the infanta to the hilt, so everybody better keep up!! Shockingly dubbed YT print, so I'm only watching til the bath scene :laugh::laugh: |

It was a bonus feature on a BD but i've no idea if it was restored to HD quality. It's Massimo Pupillo's best film in my opinion. Although perhaps Bloody Pit of Horror isn't the greatest competition. :skull: |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 229144 Just checked my copy, it's not a spotless print but the definition is good and it's a crisp print, probably the best you can hope for. |
Noted good sir!! :ghostclap: |
