THE VINCENT PRICE THREAD.....

I've been working my way through the Vincent Price boxset released by Arrow recently and thought that the enigmatic Mr.Price deserved a thread all of his own.

In decades of films, branching across all sorts of genres,Price was the epitome of 'sinister'.

Apparently a gentleman and a scholar, with a voice that was instantly recognizable (Who else could have so successfully narrated Michael Jackson's Thriller?),let's give Vincent Price he deserves.

Discuss and argue over your favourite Price moments here!

And BTW-Remember,the poll is multiple choice! ;)

Although Vincent starred in many films over many genres,I've only included his horror films or those that have some elements of horror films.

Demdike@Cult Labs 21st January 2015 07:54 PM

I only discovered From a Whisper to a Scream a couple of months back. Brilliant, a really enjoyable anthology.

I didn't vote for it though as whilst Vincent is in it i wouldn't class it as a Vincent Price film.

That's just me though. ;)

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 21st January 2015 08:02 PM

Lots of great films here, although I only voted for my absolute favourites (I would be close to checking them all otherwise!)

House of Wax
The Last Man on Earth
Witchfinder General
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Dr. Phibes Rises Again
Theatre of Blood
Madhouse

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 21st January 2015 08:12 PM

Tough call for me between Witchfinder General and Theatre of Blood.

But I reckon Theatre just edges it!

I love Pricey great on screen presence and charisma in everything he did. Always came across as a fun loving and humble person in interviews never taking himself too serious. Without stating the obvious that voice of his was amazing.

I limited myself to my 5 favourite VP movies.:pop2:

Pit and the pendulum
Masque of red death
Theatre of death
Witchfinder general
Monster club
( i know monster club is a bit dodgy but i've always loved it since i was a kid and Price's speech about humans being monsters is great.)

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 21st January 2015 09:26 PM

Spot on Nord.

As I said about Thriller, legends though they were,Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee just didn't have the same menacing voice.

Shouldn't be too long hopefully before Masque of the Red Death is released elsewhere than Germany.

I rather enjoyed Percy's Progress. Bought the Network dvd last year. It was part of my Christmas marathon and made a refreshing change from horror and CGI nonsense.

If i recall Harry H Corbett played the PM. :woot:

Has one hell of a cast as well!

I've seen Diary R ... needs a rewatch though. Did like though.

I've seen a bit of VP recently and always the sensation is of relief. Maybe it's my age, but he was always there, always forlorn and festooned in cobwebs, always ....

And then he'd turn up on Aspel or whatever plugging a cookery book!
Price-less

Whilst channel hopping today I watched a little of Talking Pictures on BBC2 which was featuring Dame Judi Dench. I was astonished by one interview snippet where Dame Judi revealed that her favourite way to wind down after a stage performance was to watch Vincent Price in the House of Usher.

Bless her cotton socks, Dame Judi knows great acting when she sees it...
