Originally Bava was going to direct an adaptation of HPL's The Dunwich Horror that was to have starred Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee. When the funds failed to materialize Bava left the project, but the skeleton of it made it back to the UK where it morphed into the Curse of the Crimson Altar.

As I am preparing to watch Blood & Black Lace when the sun goes down .... it reminds me of the first time that I saw it on a violently dubbed, panned and truncated vhs in 85. But still there remained the strangely lurid film I knew was in there somewhere. A sort of 'treasure hunt' began ... lasting another 7 years tbh. Then I acquired a better print ... sadly in the original language. My struggles continued ....  They say that the past is a foreign country ... they watch different formats there   Review ... to come .... now where ARE my gloves???  nosferatu42 and bleakshaun like this.

I had a badly cut vhs as well.....first saw it uncut on a R1 Betamax,sorry dvd,from the U.S.  The Arrow bd is in the ever-expanding to watch pile!  I did have another sellthru vhs which was supposedly uncut,but may have been cut prior to submission.  Demoncrat likes this.

I feel like I am watching it for the first time .... just like when I saw Cannibal Holocaust A masked maniac stalks some bints. But it's a world away from Offerings and the like ...The police are baffled. No wonder ... what with the amoral cesspool of high fashion as a backdrop ... and intrigue & deceit around every corner. Take your pick .... . Mitchell reminds me of Lee Montague Ahem.
