Yeah, both are superb films. They released both films in a two-disc set over here in the UK back in 2003 which I picked up, although they are both full screen versions which is annoying and have no extras to speak of.

The most pressing one for me is "Mary" which I am desperate to see. I love his work, even his duffers have interesting stuff in them. "Fear City" and "Cat Chaser" could do with definitive releases - ideally restored by AF himself. "China Girl" was slightly trimmed in the UK but would pass fine now and is a great flick. I've always wanted decent copies of his 2 "Miami Vice" episodes which were the best of the whole series IMO, especially "Home Invasion". I saw "Body Snatchers" at a press screening back in 1993 when I was a film writer for some local mags ansd it looked spectacular. I have yet to see a video/DVD print do justice to way it looked on the big screen. Needs a decent transfer. It's a very under-rated film as is and the grainy prints doing the rounds won't help it's rep. |

Big Ferrara fan (check out the superb 'The Moral Vision' book about him) and have compiled a pretty good set of reviews for him (whore twat that I am) http://www.beardyfreak.com/index.php?abel There are reviews of both "Miami Vice" episodes, the "Crime Story" pilot and his Mylene Farmer music video on there as well as the fully uncut "9 Lives" from a dupe of the OOP VHS release (the film is cut on DVD sadly) My (movie) order would be; "King of New York" "Bad Lt" "Ms .45" "Crime Story" (TV movie Pilot) "Driller Killer (The)" "The Funeral" "The Blackout" "Cat Chaser" "9 Lives of a Wet Pussy" "The Addiction" "China Girl" "R Xmas" "Fear City" "Bodysnatchers" "Dangerous Game" "The Gladiator" He seems to have moved away from genre movies recently. But i described the man and his films, before his fall (again) into relative obscurity around the time of the ill-fated "New Rose Hotel", as; Ferrara is one of the few Director's around today that makes Grindhouse orientated movies, be it in style, budget or a mixture of both, designed to get a proper cinema release. Even bigger budgeted films in his hands play like they crawled out of the local flea-pit, hungover, tripping, with crotch itch and a hard-on. And that's something, and someone, to be cherished. |
