Lesson of Evil is a really good recent Miike film which I would certainly recommend.

Yeah, and a film that will surely have a difficult time finding US distribution. It's the same issues that Battle Royale had,a nation that has to deal with school shootings can't handle kiddies being shot to death by a shotgun killer.I didn't mind, it was kind of gleeful in it's depiction of violence, which made it even more disturbing in interesting ways.Miike is a friggin' artist, unlike those Hollywood technicians making movies nowadays.

Anybody seen the longer Japanese cut of 13 Assassins? There's extra 20 minutes of something...should be exclusive to Japan for some reason.I have the international version on BD.

I've seen it through nefarious means (I have the UK BD which only houses the International Cut). I preferred it but I can understand why it was shortened. It's not like the recut of The Grandmaster in which the entire point of the film was missed - it's more a case of a director's indulgences being tightened. I believe Miike prefers the international cut, though. He made the re-edit based on the Japanese reception.

The Red Band Trailer for Takashi Miike's 100th film - Blade of the Immortal

"...lots of swordplay and detached limbs. What more could you want?"

Indeed Blade ... is just frankly mental. And a bit tiring to watch tbh. Lawdy!!

Ahem

Visitor Q

Faaaamily. Whether tis Mum & Dad or Father Knows Best, the family is the thing at the heart of it. Like the living embodiment of a Ramones song, we sit uncomfortably closely in the middle of what the Guardian might call dysfunction
Then Q arrives.
I love it. Never did I quake in fear at the thought of a murican remake for a start
Uniquely spellbinding. Not made his acquaintance?? Form an orderly queue then ....
