William Girdler.Exploitation genius or b-movie hack?

IMO he made some of the most enjoyable trash ever!
This man knew how to stretch a budget!;)

Vote for your favourite and give us your opinion on the rest of his output!

I am very fond of Three On A Meathook...not entirely sure why I am, but I am!

Haven't seen Abby, Day Of The Animals or Grizzly for many years, but I remember enjoying them - especially Grizzly.

I'd love to catch up with some of his other films, I must say.

I'm desperate to see ABBY.

The main character on that ABBY poster looks suspiciously like Benicio Del Toro to me

It's his mother.

I first saw 3 On A Meathook on the Exploited video label.
Loved collecting those vids.
It was cut on VHS wasn't it?

Unfortunately,it looks as though the only release is on the dreaded Blackhorse label.
When watching it,from what I remember, there was a fair amount of more explicitness than on the Exploited vid....
The Exploited artwork was ace.
Look at it compared to the DVD.......:pout:

I've got Abby on that awful R1 release from a few years back. A VHS tape captured on dvd. :D Its barely watchable which is a shame.

I've got Asylum of Satan somewhere and must give it a watch. For me though Girdler's best has been 'The Manitou' since I saw it at the cinema. ;)

I hope it's not the same one I just landed....

"The Mantou" and "3 On A Meathook" have been on my rental list for ages. Either they are very popular or Lovefilm has just the one copy of each. :(

Saw "Day Of The Animals" and "Grizzley" years ago. I don't think either could be described as quality film making, but I remember them having some fun value. Wasn't B movie genre regular Christopher George star in both films?

Sure was. Richard Jaeckel appeared in both too.

Im definitely a fan of Wlliam Girdler movies,Unfortunately he really got the short end of the stick in regards to having his stuff released properly even still to this day.

I watched DAY OF THE ANIMALS recently. It makes a great Sunday double bill with GRIZZLY.

And yeah, the ABBY R1 DVD makes Vipco look like Blu Ray!

Still not watched Girdler's Manitou...

I've only seen Three on a Meathook, Abby, Grizzly, and Day of the Animals.

Are any of the others worth checking out?

DOTA is most enjoyable imo with Leslie Nielsen going potty and topless and wrestling a Grizzly bear! I also remember a squirm-inducing moment where one character observes a plate of food and turns his back for a second. Only to look again and find said sustenance covered by ravenous rats!

Also, my dad took me to the cinema to see Grizzly when i was a kid and another worthy Girdler effort there. Very well shot in widescreen and i once owned the horrendously panned 'n' scanned Canadian DVD from the dawn of the format. Shriek Show's later R1 double-disc set is the better bet by a mile. I recall the scene where the titular beast rips some poor young kid's legs off and the film also boasts brilliant theatrical artwork by legendary comic book artist, Neal Adams.

I have the grey import Abby DVD too and i'm more or less afraid to watch this one based on the negativity surrounding the quality of this release.

The only time i caught TOAM and TM was back in the '90s and my recollections are less than crystal clear. I think i quite liked the former bar an awful sequence set in a disco. I also possess the ABUS DVD of the latter but God only knows when i'll get around to viewing it!:)
