I was pleasantly surprised with Herzog's Bad Lieutenant and how good it was. I thought Rescue Dawn was just okay (a Herzog film that's just okay is especially disappointing) and I didn't think Herzog could do anything with a cop movie, but I thought it was really great and different. My only beef is the badly chosen title. Grizzly Man never held up for me on repeated viewings - I thought that Timothy Threadwell guy was an awful wanker...

I think one of herzogs strongest gifts is his combination of images and sound, part of the appeal of his movies for me are the soundtracks, especially classic wagner in nosferatu (das rheingold) and a lot of the blues/folk music in other projects.

The encounters at the edge of the world box set is stupidly cheap on blu, and contains a bunch of Herzog's documentaries

The astonishing Popol Vuh soundtracks in the early films.*sigh* |

Well said Gojirosan. Aside from the electronic and folk rock stuff, I love the strange medievil music for Heart of Glass. Popol Vuh embraced the whole new agey thing in later years, but their 70's albums are well worth seeking out...

So with all the obvious Herzog love in the world it is odd how poorly represented on Blu he is?! So many of his films cry out for the HD touch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree - I'd love really properly done blu releases of Aguirre Wrath Of God and Fitzcarraldo at the very least.

Have watched Aguirre so many times I must know every twitch and glare that Kinski gives off by heart! It is a film that has actually improved with age. If you haven't seen it in a while give it go.
