I first saw Santa Sangre when it was released on dvd in 2004, I hadn't seen anything else by Jodorowsky and I didn't really know what to expect, it just sounds like something I would like. I have to say I was blown away, for me the film just got better and better.

I didn't dislike Rainbow Thief, but it did seem to try too hard to be offbeat. It's similar on a lot of ways to Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Micmacs.

There's a nice German Blu-ray available if anyone's interested.

I haven't seen Rainbow Thief, but I would definitely throw a recommendation for Tusk - it gets a bit of a kicking from Jodorowsky fans but I think it's a fantastic film and sufficiently Jodorowskyesque to seek out a copy. I wrote about the film here if anyone is interested...

Happy times indeed ! I remember first discovering Jodorowsky in the pages of Samhain, a review of El Topo. Normally I hate reviews heavy on plot synopsis, but the scene-by-scene breakdown of the film was just fascinating - it was some years before I saw the film, and it did not disappoint.

Incidentally, here's a useless factoid: when Fando and Lis did the rounds of UK cinemas and clubs in the early 70's, it played under the title Tar Babies...which I kind of like.

Three of his films sit comfortably in my all time top 100. I'd love to have seen his vision of Dune.
