Default The ROBERT RODRIGUEZ thread

I was alarmed to read in some movie mag,a review of Rodriguezs' MACHETE which stated words to the effect of 'Further proof of the decline of Rodriguez...'
When did this begin? Did anyone else notice this?
I certainly didn't.
To me Rodriguez makes HIGHLY entertaining and riotous movies!

What do you all think?

I have no idea what they were referring to when they said that. I love Robert Rodriguez. I think his philosophy of film-making is incredibly inspirational and the passion he has for what he does is incredible and shows in his work. Sure people might pull the "ahem...Spy Kids anyone?" card but they're not really made for fans of Desperado or From Dusk Till Dawn.

I've not seen Machete yet. Tempted by the HMV steelbook but have spent soooo much on dvds/BD's this month so am gonna hold off.

I used to really like him but then went off him but for the life of me can't really say why. The only one of his films I still like is the first "Spy Kids" film.

you can count me as a fan Reaps ever since the first time i saw From Dusk Till Dawn then seeked Desperado. I love this guy's way of making films, sure i found Sin City and Once Upon A Time in Mexico abit Meh, but he's the only film maker i can think of who makes movies successfully for both adults and kids. alot of people also need to understand that he co-directed Machete and the fact that this guy does almost everything himself is phenomenal.

I love RR movies, especially El Mariachi. I know the studio wanted a bigger name, but I would have liked to have seen Carlos Gallardo continue as El Mariachi (he did appear as one of the mariachis in Desperado though)

Rodriguez is a hack director who hasn't made a decent film since Machete

I love Sin City, Desperado, Planet Terror and From Dusk till Dawn.

IMO they are as good a four films as you would find in most directors cv's

I love Rodriguez!

My faves:

1. Planet Terror
2. Machete
3. Desperado

This director knows how to make fun films that never disappoint on repeated viewings.
