John Huston and Sam Peckinpah in THE VISITOR

Huston is one of the main actors in the film so it's not really a cameo.

One very random mention - if you look very quickly you can spot Joe D'Amato coming out of a cable car with his cast in Anthropophagous Beast. My favourite director cameo is Scorsese in Taxi Driver as the cheated-on husband - "Have you ever seen what a .44 Magnum will do to a woman's p*ssy?" - I mean, creepy...

The Scorsese cameo wasn't planned as an actor had been cast for the role but, when he dropped out, Scorsese decided to play the part himself. I know these aren't director cameos, but Scorsese has a habit of casting his mother in small roles.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but Alfred Hitchcock cameos go without saying and are part of cinema history and folklore.

I wouldn't say i had superior knowledge - just far too much spare time to look for these things!

I always loved Coppola's cameo in Apocalypse Now alongside DP Vittorio Storaro - trying to get the soldiers not to "look in the camera, just go by like you're fighting, like you're fighting"... A neat little comment at the Herculean task of making Apocalypse Now...

Sam Peckinpah turns up in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, but you'll have to be quick on the draw to catch him as a sound man trying to catch a soundbite from Kris Kristofferson's Rubber Duck in Convoy...
