What was Sam's BEST film?

I can't believe he hasn't a thread of his own yet!

My fave has to be 'The Wild Bunch', the film has so much to say, and says it so well. And what a cast.

Agreed! After WB my favourites are: CROSS OF IRON, PAT GARRET AND BILLY THE KID, STRAW DOGS and BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA.

I like his other films too (I even have some love for CONVOY!) but those are the ones that stick out the most.

I'd say after Stanley Kubrick, Peckinpah is my favourite american film director.

i voted for Pat Garrett, though i could just as easily pick Ride The high Country....easily one of the few artists working within hollywood IMO...

The final shootout in THE WILD BUNCH - no matter how many times I see it, it still takes my breath away.

Major Dundee and Ride the High Country are both great films. For me Peckinpah had Randolph Scott produce his finest performance in RTHC.

Demdike@Cult Labs 26th June 2011 02:33 PM

I found The Ballad of Cable Hogue to be very disappointing, easily his weakest western.

Pete 26th June 2011 02:41 PM

MAJOR DUNDEE and RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY are fine films.

I disagree with you on CABLE HOGUE though, I think it's excellent (aside from Stella Stevens)

Gojirosan 26th June 2011 02:46 PM

Couldn't pick a favourite, Ride The High Country, The Ballad Of Cable Hogue, The Wild Bunch, Cross Of Iron, Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid, Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia...all too good to chose just one!

The only Peckinpah film I haven't seen is JUNIOR BONNER.
