Default The SAM PECKINPAH THREAD

Legend ol' Sam was, bloody legend by nature, bloody Sam by name.

Discuss all aspects here, and as CROSS OF IRON has just been released on Blu Ray,here's something to whet those appetites......

What was Sam's BEST film?

I can't believe he hasn't a thread of his own yet!

My fave has to be 'The Wild Bunch', the film has so much to say, and says it so well. And what a cast.

Agreed! After WB my favourites are: CROSS OF IRON, PAT GARRET AND BILLY THE KID, STRAW DOGS and BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA.

I like his other films too (I even have some love for CONVOY!) but those are the ones that stick out the most.

I'd say after Stanley Kubrick, Peckinpah is my favourite american film director.

The final shootout in THE WILD BUNCH - no matter how many times I see it, it still takes my breath away.

Major Dundee and Ride the High Country are both great films. For me Peckinpah had Randolph Scott produce his finest performance in RTHC.

I found The Ballad of Cable Hogue to be very disappointing, easily his weakest western.

MAJOR DUNDEE and RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY are fine films.

I disagree with you on CABLE HOGUE though, I think it's excellent (aside from Stella Stevens)

Couldn't pick a favourite, Ride The High Country, The Ballad Of Cable Hogue, The Wild Bunch, Cross Of Iron, Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid, Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia...all too good to chose just one!
