Default The Sergio Martino Thread

I've just went Martino mad and ordered;
TORSO ABUS (Not a word Cloud!)
TORSO AWE version (Cheers Phill )
GAMBLING CITY
ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK
THE BIG ALLIGATOR
I already have;
CASE OF THE BLOODY SCORPION
MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD
A MAN CALLED BLADE
THE VIOLENT PROFESSIONALS
TORSO Shameless

High time I caught up this man's back catalogue,and rather than have a poll,I thought we'd DISCUSS his films here.
What else has he directed?
Mrs Wardh (used to own eh Cloud)
and Your Vice are going for crazy money on Amazon now....

"Suspected Death of a Minor" is meant to be really good, must get around to watching that. Actually, I've that, "All The Colours Of The Dark", "The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh" and "The Case of the Scorpion's Tail" all lying about here waiting to be watched, lazy git that I am. I haven't seen "The Violent Professionals" in years, but loved it. Must watch it (and "Torso" right enough) again soon.

After The Fall Of New York is an entertaining Mad Max rip-off.

I a big fan of Martino's works.

DVD's I have are:
The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh
Case of the Scorpion's Tail
All the Colours of the Dark
Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
Giovannona Long-Thigh
Torso
Gambling City
Mannaja: A Man Called Blade
The Mountain of the Cannibal God
Big Alligator River

I'm hoping more of his 80's action flicks find their way to DVD soon!

Those looking to learn a little more about the man - check this:

Another Martinophile here!

His first thrillers are fascinating. The rest is, unfortunately, not in the same league. It seems Martino's enthusiasm faded in the 80ies, like so many other Italian directors.

I have on DVD: All The Colors of the Dark, The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh, Torso, Your Vice is the Longest Title I Have Ever Typed, and The Case of the Scorpion Tale. I adore the first 3, the 2 others left me cold. They are still interesting, though.

What impresses me about Martino is his ability to give an edge to any scene. There's rarely a dull or boring moment in his movies. It's very dynamic. This is something he shares with Dario Argento (the good one, not the impostor living in his body today). These are confident, assertive directors. In control.

I'm not a fan of his sci-fi and fantasy movies of the late 70ies, 80ies (2019: After the fall of New York, Atomic Cyborg, The Great Alligator, ...). They lack the sensuality and the visual style of the first ones. They are decent rip-off, nothing more.

No Shame Italy released an English friendly version Reaps - if you liked Big Alligator River, this is pretty much on the same level IMO.
