Default FRED OLEN RAY-KING OF THE BACKYARD EPIC!

Fred Olen Ray has made some stinkers.Love him or loathe him,he's been a pretty persistent figure in the annals of z-grade trash cinema!

Scaps, which is due to be released on Blu Ray by 88 Films shortly, is one of his better efforts, believe it or not!

Anyone ever sat through Alien Dead or Demented Death Farm Massacre?

I had these on dvd or vhs at some point-trust me,the titles are far better than the films!

One of his more enjoyable efforts was the Heather Thomas starrer Cyclone.

Jan Michael Vincent and PJ Soles obviously had mortgages to pay when they agreed to star in his late eighties (I think) sci-fi z grade Alienator!

Don't get me wrong,if you love trash, then Fred is the man to provide it!

Discuss the madness of Fred here!

Gratuitous re-post:

Demented Death Farm Massacre (1971)

Fred Olen Ray and Troma present Demented Death Farm Massacre (AKA: Honey Britches) a tale of two jewel thieves on the run from the law with their dizzy arm candy, whose car runs out of juice in hick country Colorado. The quartet are then forced to make tracks on foot whereby they stumble across a cabin inhabited by bible bashing moonshiner hick Harlan and his sexy, naive young wife who he was 'given' to settle a debt.

Cue plenty of female flesh and personality clashes as the thieves stop over with the hicks until the heat has blown off. More of a hicksploitation number than a high body count 'Death Massacre' as the title suggests, the film is more reliant on its silly scenarios and set pieces relating to the cultural differences between the cruel, sleazy jewel thieves and the bumbling hicks to fill out the run time. The blood only starts to flow (well, trickle) in the last act when the tables are turned slightly and the oppressed hicks seize their moment.

Troma's contribution to the film was to splice in David Carradine as a grizzled narrator, who at various intervals throughout the film spouts throwaway Bible verse, as if to bring some sort of logic, reasoning and sense of divine justice to the story... in fact it just adds to the overall amusement of the on screen shenanigans.

The director Fred Olen Ray came to my attention after an episode of the Jonathan Ross show The Incredibly Strange Film Show.

I don't remember anything about Scalps but i rarely sell dvds and it was soon on Ebay after buying it. Will probably pick up the 88 Films bluray though and give it a second chance.

I recently went through my video collection as downsizing and selling most of them and found a few Fred Olen Rays including Cyclone, Armed response and Alienator which i remember being trashy fun.

At that time there were about 10 places you could hire then in a 5 mile radius. More choice meant a higher 'hit' rate.

My memory of TAD is admittedly hazy ... and have seen more of Ray's work since.

No idea what label it's going to be released on, but...

"...we're planning a Blu-ray of BIKINI JONES, coming up shortly...want to make it a double feature, but can't seem to settle on a title for the 2nd feature, so... here's your chance to chime in... suggestions?"
