On the subject of rural horror, zaavi have southern comfort on blu to pre-order stupidly cheap. (about 12.45) The only question is will they actually ship the damnned thing. ended up cancelling my blood beast terror after being made to wait so long!

This is one crazy movie!
Calvaire is the best "horror" movie from Belgium. (that I know)
It has a real creepy atmosphere and the end it totally insane!
Love it.
If you want more info, let me know.

Love this movie, though not sure its the best horror movie from belgium. Surely george sluziers THE VANISHING or the DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS are worthy contenders as well.

I remeber picking up Calvaire when I worked at Blockbuster not knowing what the hell I was going to get, ended up wondering what the f**k i'd just seen!

George Sluizer isn't Belgian but Dutch.
But I didn't really like the Vanishing...
Never heard of The daughters of darkness so I will have to check it out.
Thanks!
And Calvaire... when the movie has ended , you sit and stare... and think to yourself WTF! hihihi, that's why I like it so much

I personally prefer Kümel's Malpertuis to Daughter's of Darkness. Both decent films, though.

Really? I thought Malpertuis was way too ambitious for Kümel, full of great ideas that never really coalesced, wonderfully strange though.

and for rural horror what about Eden Lake?
I've got to say I really hated that film - it is horribly manipulative - taking a believable situation and then pushing it right over the edge, but I suppose I should admire the director's skill in doing that - his next film The Woman In Black was pretty good.
