I'm floating on and off at the mo' my friend so it may take time for me to get around to reading your posts. Further to any output from Angelo... he appears to have disappeared leaving his business partner, Sean at Room 237, that fine purveyor of all things nerdy, in a right bind. If you are ever passing through Portsmouth you must visit Room 237. While I'm banging on about comics I can reccomend "Herald: Lovecraft and Tesla"

And I've just finished re-reading it since getting it back from my little girl. After my re-visit to it I stand by everything I said before. Unfortunately volume 2 seems to be dragging it's feet and so does the new project from Angelo, "The Spear". This is because Angelo is going to be a dad soon and has his mind on other things!

Hawk, my friend, I don't know whether you caught my post/s about Volume 1 of No Place Like Home but it is fantastic. Very adult, very dark, strong female characters and the scariest flying monkeys you could ever meet. The artwork is great but the writing is some of the best I've seen in a long time that isn't by Alan Moore or China Mieville!

I know that I'm easily pleased but I would like to recommend this book to you. You can try the first issue on Comixology for free at

No Place Like Home #1 - Comics by comiXology

Give it a try y' got nowt t' lose

Halo Jones was my first encounter with Alan Moore. I am positive that Moore would more than approve of Halo goin' starkers. The guy is a true genius, a bit of a diva, yes, and as far removed from a prude as anyone would likely encounter. AND Ian Gibbson has never put a foot wrong in my opinion.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! Yes it's all very pretty but if I want that level of "realism" I can read a photo strip in "Viz". And I do see what you mean about the sleazy angle, just that being a "dyed in the wool northern great fat sexist bastard" I'd not paid it that much attention

Comics have come an awful long way since 1977 and the advent of 2000AD but sometimes you can push the envelope just a bit too far. As for the characterisation I'm right with you, 2000AD was built on strong characters not vanilla non-entities no matter how "realistic" they look.

'Ere, Hawk, 'ave you bin readin' American Reaper? D'you think that it's a tad artsy? I mean the stories work well, I won't deny it, and I'm enjoying 'em but I can't get past the feelin' that there's too much in the graphics dept.

I haven't seen a Devlin Waugh story for so long that I'd almost forgotten about him until an artist interview in the Meggazine reminded me. If I remember rightly they were pretty good stories, great art too but camp as whole Jamboree of scouts.

In comic land no-one is definitively written off, they've nearly all died and come back, even in 2000AD (Johnny Alpha for one, Dredd another). Even Supes bit the big one and he's indestructible (virtually). In classical mythology there were ways of getting someone out of Hell but, in fairness, they didn't always work (Orpheus and Eurydice).

Anyway I'll stop preachin' now and say yeah, I'm looking forward to it too and I've always loved Wagner's work so it should be one to watch.

In the Big Meg orphans are a dozen a credit. Death is such a bleeding hearted liberal...

D'yer know, I decided some time ago to stop tryin' to think or even out-think the writers of my favourite media. It takes away "surprise" if you do figure it out and you can always "retro-think" it if you don't like their scenarios or you think that it is "flagged" too early. These days I like to sit back and enjoy the ride.
