Vinyl Soundtracks

A thread for people who love, listen to, and collect film soundtracks on vinyl.

I've also started a group here, if anyone is interested (I've only posted info related to MONDO at the moment, but will be starting on one for DeathWaltz in time).

Since getting rid of my old dusty turntable and buying a new (albeit modestly priced) player last year, my appetite for vinyl (soundtracks in particular) has been re-ignited... this has also been helped enormously by the good folks at MONDO and DeathWaltz Records.

My current collection may be pretty small, but I'm happy with it so far:

- The Beyond
- Buio Omega
- The Deadly Spawn
- Escape from New York
- Halloween II (1981)
- Halloween III: Season of the Witch
- The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue
- Maniac (1980)
- Nekronology - music from the films of Jörg Buttgereit
- Patrick
- Prince of Darkness
- Profondo Rosso
- Suspiria
- Tenebre
- They Live
- The Wicker Man (1973)
- Zombie Flesh Eaters

I've got quite a few myself (mostly original older ones)... ;)

Would love to see a list / some pics of your collection, Bruno. :)

bdc 19th May 2013 02:27 PM

I can't make a list as I don't even remember all the soundtrack lp's I've got...
But I've got a new camera (cheap little old Cannon thingy I got for free) I'm dying to try out so maybe I'll take some pics. ;)

Here's some quick pics I made of the soundtracks I had recently been listening, the others are tucked away in my archive and not that easy to get out immediately. ;)

Jinx_Barkman 19th May 2013 05:06 PM

^Nice!

I have a few but I'm always on the hunt for more.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 20th May 2013 12:12 AM

Some very nice ones there, Bruno :thumb:

That Vampyros Lesbos one appears to have a She Killed in Ecstasy cover, though!

Most of my 'older' vinyl are non-soundtrack related... I only started buying vinyl soundtracks a few years ago, and like Jinx, am always on the hunt for more. ;)

This will explain. ;)
"The music on the album is compiled from the albums Psychedelic Dance Party and Sexadelic and consists of film music of three Franco films: Vampyros Lesbos, She Killed in Ecstacy and The Devil Came From Akasava."

Those are all "newer" releases from German label Crippled Dick Hotwax in that pic,the others are old releases.
Great lp's though and seems the cd versions can still be picked up cheap used if you're interested.

I also have some more of these "newer" releases like Beat at Cinecitta,Easy Tempo etc...

Vampyros Lesbos - The Lions and the Cucumber / We Don't Care - YouTube

Gert Wilden & Orchestra - Girl Faces - YouTube

Gert Wilden - Fu Manchu Theme - YouTube

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 20th May 2013 10:28 AM

Thanks for the explanation... and thanks for posting 'Girl Faces' too; I like that tune. :thumb:

Also, 'Crippled Dick Hotwax' is probably one of the best record label names I've ever heard! :D

Great thread by the way, I just came on here to create one similar, but no need :D

I'm extremely excited that the soundtrack to my fave sci fi film (and book) is being reissued on May 19th on 180g vinyl by 'Music on Vinyl'....

Very nice collection B_E.

Are any of them original or are they all modern repressings?

As many of them are featured in other people's posts as well.

Thanks Dem. :)

Most are modern re-pressings - All the Death Waltz, Mondo, and Waxworks stuff (the first 5 pics) were released in the last few years. I only really started seriously collecting vinyl (especially soundtracks) in late 2012. Some of the Goblin stuff is a little older but again these are all re-pressings. I'm not really bothered about hunting down original issues or first editions. The soundtrack itself will do me.

It is nice to see companies like Death Waltz and Mondo putting extra effort into their releases by hunting down missing tracks or unreleased material and including bonus stuff such as mp3 downloads, posters, specially commissioned artwork and liner notes.

The joy i got when i bought lp's in a pre cd world was always special. The size of the sleeve, inner sleeves with lyrics and additional pictures, all added to the good old vinyl inside.

Cd's ruined it all for me. Crappy miniscule covers which suffocated great artworks. An album such as Iron Maiden's Powerslave was something to explore with your eyes for months on end. Nowadays what's the point?. :(

Completely agree.

I rarely buy CDs anymore (mainly because there is hardly anything being released that is to my taste that I haven't got already, rather than it being a content/packaging issue, but I do get your point ). It's more the sound quality for me. You can't beat the sound of a vinyl record through a good set of speakers in my opinion and whilst I do burn CDs for the car and listen to my mp3 player at the gym or whilst walking the dog etc. vinyl is my preferred format of choice at home. Like you say, some releases are works of art in themselves, and the recent resurgence in vinyl collecting has seen a lot of bespoke companies cropping up catering for niche tastes and willing to go the extra mile on their releases, which is a good thing indeed. Long may it continue!

I still do pick up a lot of cd's but generally back catalogue releases. Very rarely new releases. I just make a note of them and pick them up months or years down the line.

Five or so years ago and further back, i bought so much stuff i wasn't listening to it. I'd buy a cd, play it once, then never go back to it as there was something else to open, play once and put on the shelf ad infinitum....

I still have thirty or so unopened cd's gathering dust because i made a concerted effort to listen to the 4000+ albums i already had rather than wasting money as i'd done before.

Amazing collection BE! Something to aspire too... I'd love to get my hands on DAY OF THE DEAD and THE BEYOND vinyls, to name but 2, hopefully in the future I'll grab them for a good price.

I saw a reissue of Maiden's Powerslave LP in HMV the other day and it does look incredible! Artwork is definitely half the reason I buy vinyl, particularly vinyl soundtracks, the other half would be the amazing packages, brilliant sound quality, especially on these new virgin vinyl 180/200g records the boutique labels are producing these days, and just the act of having to swap over the two sides and seeing the record in motion feels unique in this day and age.

I'd recommend you look into these two releases from Austrian label Cineploit, BE... They are only singles (ones a 10" and the other a 7") but they look incredible! They are limited but are still available from Cineploit themselves on amazon I think. They are basically covers but supposedly very well done, I'm just waiting for mine to arrive!

Wow, beautiful LP's.
Would you consider framing some of the covers, and hanging on your wall?

Thanks. :)

The Beyond is pretty hard to track down at a sensible price now but I think Day of the Dead can be found pretty easily and the prices are still fair - Amazon had some a while back for around £25.

Thanks, Linbro. :)

I wouldn't necessarily be against framing some, but I'm more inclined to keep them stashed away and safe as a 'complete package'. Plus, I don't really have a great deal of wall space what with all the bookcases and cabinets full of DVDs and BDs everywhere. I'm trying to get some more space by moving things around a bit but any space I do create will no doubt be used up by getting some nice film posters - I've been after a Devil Rides Out poster for a while so that is a priority! Some of the releases actually came with separate posters, so that is also an option.

These four arrived today too (Death Waltz Record Store Day 2014 Exclusive Bundle), so I thought I may as well take a little pic:

oaxaca 6th May 2014 06:12 PM

Waxwork Records have announced their next release as 1986's CHOPPING MALL! :D

By the way these are some good soundtrack-releasing labels (mostly horror / Italo focussed) I'd recommend for people wanting to get into buying soundtracks on vinyl:-

Home | Death Waltz Recording Company
Waxwork Records
One Way Static Records
Mondo
Finders Keepers Records - Uncovering the best in Psychedelic / Jazz / Folk / Funk and Avant-Garde rarities.
Private Records
Cineploit | Cinematic Music influenced by mainly the italian Maestros and in general the Cinema from the 60's, 70's and 80's
Music On Vinyl
http://www.btf.it/

Oh and the 2nd hand section of all good record stores!

oaxaca 7th May 2014 09:48 AM

Went into Head today hoping to pick up SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE but it wasn't there unfortunately. However I did pick up CREEPSHOW in 'Meteor Shit Green' (Waxwork) and THE HILLS HAVE EYES (One Way Static - may have to take this back because despite being shrink wrapped the vinyl is badly scuffed somehow!?). I got £15 off due to having bought 10 vinyls in total now on their reward scheme, bonus!

oaxaca 8th May 2014 08:15 PM

2 more ordered today...

The Omen soundtrack (black vinyl) - My first Mondo record! Got it for a good price on discogs due to it having a slight split on one seam.
Slumber Party Massacre - Death Waltz' latest

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...dL._SY450_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...wL._SY450_.jpg

If all goes to plan Mondo is releasing THE VISITOR tomorrow and Priv4te Records is releasing Sergio Martino's IL FIUME DEL GRANDE CAIMANO!! :D

oaxaca 9th May 2014 06:11 PM

Well a half good day today for vinyl soundtracks... Mondo now have this for sale which I've just ordered, LOVE the film so the soundtrack was a no brainer!! Unfortunately Private Records' THE GREAT ALLIGATOR is coming next week now.

2 More in the bag plus I've traded Waxwork's CREEPSHOW for Mondo's HALLOWEEN soundtrack. Creepshow didn't really do it for me although the package was amazing to look at.

I've checked a few sites but can't seem to find a number. I'm not sure they are limited (at least perhaps not down to as few as 1000 or something like that).

It says " This limited pressed 7″ EP" regarding Your Vice...

Might just pick that up at the minute as money is tight. Seems a bit of a waste for p&p though....

PaulD 10th May 2014 06:29 PM

Sod it, moment of impulse, ordered both...

oaxaca 10th May 2014 07:34 PM

For those who are fans, One Way Static have got their hands on copies of Simon Boswell's HARDWARE 2xLP soundtrack on Flick Records apparently. They have it available for pre-order for 30 euros + shipping. This is a fair bit cheaper than the price Boswell himself was charging for it on his own site. I'm sure its a great soundtrack, and its on nice white vinyl, but there's so many soundtracks out there that I'm keen on currently, I'm gonna have to pass on this. I think I read Graham Humphries did the artwork...

Picked these beauties up at Head earlier :D I think Death Waltz have done the right thing by having all there latest albums gatefold and made out of thick cardboard, much sturdier and less prone to tearing + Its nice to be able to see the spine!
