The fifth song, 'Dangerous Tonight', sees Alice returning to a favourite subject - horror. The song is about vampires. It is a good rock song and, although the keyboards play a major part, the guitars are very much at the forefront of the song, adding bite

Alice Cooper - Vocals
Stef Burns - Guitars
Hugh McDonald - Bass
Mickey Curry - Drums
John Webster - B3 Organ
Robert Bailey - Keyboards

05/12 - Dangerous Tonight (Cooper, Child)

"Take another bite
It'll be alright
What's wrong will soon feel right
Dangerous tonight
Take another sip
Let it kiss your lips
And let a little drip on your thighs

If you let me I'll untie your sensuality
I'll open up your heart and satisfy my greed

I'm dangerous, I'm a dying breed
Poisonous like a centipede
I'm capable of the foulest deed
Dangerous at night
I'm dangerous like a razorback
Deadly like a heart attack
Well, I don't bend and I don't crack
Dangerous tonight

Take another turn
The rules have all been burned
And you've got tricks to learn
Dangerous tonight
Play another role
Try and lose control
And stain your soul to red from white

In my mind, oh, a million voices tell me no
It's prime crime time and I gotta let it go

I'm dangerous like a broken glass
I'm a flesh fanatic psychopath
I can cause you pain and make it last
Dangerous tonight
I'm dangerous when the sun goes down
So cross yourself, don't fool around
I'll drag your heart into the ground
Dangerous tonight

If you let me I'll untie your sensuality
I'll open up your heart and satisfy my greed

I'm dangerous, I'm a dying breed
Poisonous like a centipede
I'm capable of the foulest deed
Dangerous at night
I'm dangerous like a razorback
Deadly like a heart attack
Well, I don't bend and I don't crack
Dangerous tonight

I'm dangerous like a broken glass
I'm a blood bubonic psychopath
I can cause you pain and make it last
Dangerous tonight"

The first side of the record closes with 'Might As Well Be On Mars', which at over 7 minutes is possibly the longest song Alice has ever recorded. It's a good power-ballad. Not the kind of music that I normally listen to, but this one I like. The production is a little bit too slick, but that is a minor complaint. It's interesting to hear the phrase 'man on the moon' being sang is a way that is eerily similarly to how Michael Stipe would do it in the R.E.M. song, released the following year!

Alice Cooper - Vocals
Stef Burns - Guitars
Hugh McDonald - Bass
Mickey Curry - Drums
Robert Bailey - Keyboards
Jai Winding - Keyboards
Chris Boardman - String Arrangements

06/12 - Might As Well Be On Mars (Cooper, Wagner, Child)

"The city streets are wet with rain tonight
The taxi drivers swerve from lane to lane
A lonely guitar man playin' down the hall
Midnight blues comin' through the walls

I tried to call you on the telephone
I left it off the hook just to hear it ring
You told me you were better off alone
I never knew that tears could stain

I'm on the roof and I'm starin' at the stars
Lookin' down at all the cars
I can see you
In the window of your favorite corner bar
But to reach you is just too far
And I might as well be on Mars

The city seems so old and grey and beat
It closes in and makes me wanna suffocate
And you just live across the street
But that's a billion miles away

You've turned my world into a dark and lonely place
Like a planet lost in space, my light's fadin'
I'd cross the universe to be right where you are
But I'm right in your backyard
And I might as well be on Mars

I might as well be on Mars
You can't see me
I might as well be the Man on the Moon
You can't hear me
Oh, can you feel me so close and yet so far
Baby, I might as well be on Mars

Baby, I can't fly
If I could I'd come down to ya
Maybe I should try

I'm on the roof and I'm starin' at the stars
Lookin' down at all the cars
I can see you
In the window of your favorite corner bar
But to reach is just too far
And I might as well be on Mars

I might as well be on Mars
You can't see me
I might as well be the Man on the Moon
You can't hear me
Oh, can you feel me so close
And yet so far
Baby, I might as well be on Mars
Yeah I might as well be on Mars

I might as well be on Mars
I might as well be on Mars
I might as well be on Mars
I might as well be on Mars
I might as well be on Mars
I might as well be on Mars
I might as well be on Mars
I might as well be on Mars"

Dangerous Tonight along with Wind Up Toy, (which might actually be my in my Alice top ten) is easily the best thing on the album. In my opinion.

Susan. Sorry but i have to disagree with your suggestion that Alice influenced REM.

Stipe sings the words man on the moon totally different to Alice. He elongates moon for a start.

Besides how do you sing the words to make them sound different? It's a well known phrase - man on the moon.

I'm sure that you know just how important this song will turn out to be, but (for the time being) in the words of River Song...

...SPOILERS!

Black Juju is around 9 minutes long is it not? Surely that's the longest Alice song, plus Halo of Flies is pretty long.

These last few posts are making want to listen to Hey Stoopid again which has never been one of my favourites.

I listened to it earlier due to this thread.

I listened to it on the way home, it all came flooding back to me, I loved this album at school, I just hated the album cover

I know, I got confused, I like the music but hate the cover, the next album though Last Temptation, I know I don't like that at all, however I do like the cover

This is actually the second, toned-down cover for the album. The original cover, which was scrapped, was a little bit more graphic and disturbing, with hypodermic needles, pills and other drug related paraphernalia!

I've not been able to find any pictures of the original design tho

*Edit - I've just noticed that there are no pictures of the cover used in this album review yet!

Have to remedy that!!
