The 2005 album, 'Dirty Diamonds' is a garage album in the same vein as the previous one, but it's generally a more satisfying album, with a greater diversity of material including hard rock, bluesy songs and fun songs. However, the typical song on the album is straight-up rock 'n' roll, well suited for a crowded bar

There is an error in the photographs on the album cover. Although Tommy Clufetos had played drums on the recording, he has left the band by the time the photo shoot was scheduled. The album pictures feature Eric Singer, who was a member of the touring band, instead

An early version of the cover art was leaked although the final version was released a few days later (see pics below)

Additional musicians were used on a lot of songs to compliment the core elements of the band

Vocals, Harmonica - Alice Cooper
Guitar, Vocals - Ryan Roxie
Guitars, vocals - Damon Johnson
Bass, - Chuck Garric
Drums, vocals- Tommy Clufetos

Producer - Steve Lindsey and Rick Boston

The opening cut, 'Woman Of Mass Distraction', maybe a generic rocker, but it's a good, fun one, getting things off on a solid note.

Additional musicians were Lenny Castro (Tambourine) and Steve Lindsey (Organ)

01/13 - Woman Of Mass Distraction (Cooper, Roxie, Boston, Garric, Johnson)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhWOAwoRByU

"I`m a shock rock romeo I like ta leave 'em shattered
Oh I can love 'em, and leave 'em, it doesn`t really matter
I never met my match, until I met the lady
Oh she whoop'd me, she cooked me, she practically filleted me

Some girls, try to get you in bed
Some girls, are like a kick in the head
Some girls, make you wish you were dead
Some girls will make you blue when you should be seeing red

She`s a woman
Some kinda woman
I got a woman
A woman of mass distraction

The first time I saw her she said d'ya wanna date me
Oh the next time I come back she tried to cas-ter-ate me

Some girls, try to get you in bed
Some girls, like a kick in the head
Some girls, make you wish you were dead
Some girls will make you blue when you should be seeing red

She`s a woman
Some kinda woman
I got a woman
A woman of mass distraction

She`s a woman
Some kinda woman
I got a woman
She`s a woman

She`s a woman
Some kinda woman
She`s a woman
Some kinda woman"

'Perfect' is a catchy pop-metal song, but it's nowhere as offensive as the pop-metal songs from 'The Eyes Of Alice Cooper' album. Probably not the kind of word you would associate with Alice Cooper, but this song is quite sweet! To my ears, there is a T-Rex vibe going on thru the tune

Lenny Castro (Tambourine) was an additional musician on this song, and Damon Johnson played bass in addition to guitar

02/13 - Perfect (Cooper, Roxie, Johnson)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMIJ8qbqQMY

"She's an overnight sensation in the mirror on her wall
She gets a standing ovation at every shower curtain call
And she becomes a pop star in the safety of her car
and then she falls to pieces at the karaoke bar

She's perfect
Until the lights go on
And then it all goes wrong
'Cause now she's not so perfect

She can shake it just like J-Lo when the bedroom lights go down
But when she hits the dance floor she's a hip-hop hippo clown

She's perfect
Until the lights go on
And then it all goes wrong
'Cause now she's not so perfect

She's so perfect
She's so fine
She's so wonderful
In the arena of her mind

She's not perfect
She's all mime
She can't sing or dance
She ain't got a chance
But baby... I don't mind..

She's perfect
Awwww She's perfect
Awwww She's so perfect
You know she's so perfect
Aw Aw Aw

Sing baby
Dance dance dance
You give
Shake it down..
Oh that's bad..
That bad..
I love ya baby
That's just awful
Whoa
You gotta
You gotta
Whoa
Never, Never do that again"

The third song, 'You Make Me Wanna', is pure pop-rock. It's generic of course, with a Rolling Stones-esque guitar riff. It's also very entertaining. However, I'm not sure about the 'wa hoo hoo' lyrics tho!

Additional musicians were Mark Hollingsworth (Saxophone), Lenny Castro (Tambourine), Peggi Blu & Edna Wright (Background Vocals)

03/13 - You Make Me Wanna (Cooper, Roxie, Boston, Garric)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCucaL-6z_c

"You`re the star, You're the face
You got the look that I can't erase
You look the world right in the eye
Stare 'em down babe, and make 'em cry
Well I know it don't make much sense
I'm in love with your innocence

What you got
What I need
You took my breath now let me breathe
What you got
What I need
I follow where you lead

You make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Ya know you make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Oh you make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Yeah, think I gotta (wa hoo hoo)

Your the bomb, I`m the fuse
Light me up and turn me loose
You shake me up when you walk by
Heart is beatin' and my mouth is dry
Well I know it don't make much sense
But I'm in love with your innocence

What you got
What I need
You took my breath now let me breathe
What you got
What I need
I follow where you lead

You make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Ya know you make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Oh you make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Yeah, I think I gotta (wa hoo hoo)
You know you make me wanna

(wa hoo hoo)
(wa hoo hoo)
(wa hoo hoo)
(wa hoo hoo)

What you got
What I need
You took my breath now let me breathe
What you got
What I need
I follow where you lead

You make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Ya know you make me wanna (wa hoo hoo)
Oh you make me wanna
(wa hoo hoo) (What you got)
Oh... I gotta (what you got)
Yeah yeah yeah
(Wa hoo hoo)
(What you got)
(What you got)
(Wa hoo hoo)
(Wa hoo hoo)
(Wa hoo hoo)
(Wa hoo hoo)"

The title track is next. 'Dirty Diamonds' is a strange song, starting off with some Henry Mancini cinematic jazz before turning into a high octane rocker! The jazz themes are sprinkled throughout the song, but strangely it works really well

Additional musicians on the studio version are Mark Hollingsworth (Saxophone & Flute), Chris Tedesco (Trumpet), Steve Lindsey (Guitars & Moog Synthesizer) and Rick Boston (Guitars)

The video is from the 'Live At Montreux' DVD, which was recorded on this tour

04/13 - Dirty Diamonds (Cooper, Boston, Garric, Johnson)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo0283y4NYw

"You roll the dice, bet your life
Put your trust in your trophy wife
Got stabbed in the back in a blink of her eye
She's in bed with the boys and the F.B.I.

Dirty Diamonds
Blood soaked money in your shakin' fist
Dirty Diamonds
Stone cold killers and you're on their list

Ha ha oh yeah
You're tied to a chair with a gun at your head
Your face is all smeared with the blood that's been shed
You were gonna be rich now you're gonna be dead
And all that glitters turns to lead

Dirty Diamonds
Blood soaked money in your shakin' fist
Dirty Diamonds
Stone cold killers and you're on their list
Dirty Diamonds
Blood soaked money in your shakin' fist
Dirty Diamonds
Stone cold killers and you're on their list

Dirty Diamonds
Diamonds don't cheat
Diamonds don't lie
Diamonds are forever
Diamonds never die

Dirty Diamonds
Blood soaked money in your shakin' fist
Dirty Diamonds
Stone cold killers and you're on their list
Dirty Diamonds
Blood soaked money in your shakin' fist
Dirty Diamonds
Stone cold killers and you're on their list

Run for your life, you can't hide
Can't you hear them coming, You're gonna die
Run for your life, you can't hide
Can't you hear them coming, You're gonna die
You better run for your life, you can't hide
Can't you hear them coming, You're gonna die
You better run for your life, you can't hide
Can't you hear them coming, You're gonna die"

I should find the fifth song on the album, 'The Saga Of Jesse Jane', incredibly offensive, but it leaves me with a big smile on my face. It's a country & Western song about a transvestite trucker! One thing to note about this song is the vocal performance - Alice sings in a much lower range than he normally does

Additional musicians were Rick Boston (Acoustic Guitar), Tony Gilkyson (Electric Guitar), Steve Lindsey (Tambourine & Shaker), Mark Lennon (Background Vocals)

05/13 - The Saga Of Jesse Jane (Cooper, Roxie)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biWxChXLpGg

"I'm in jail in a Texas town
In my sisters wedding gown
I drive a truck all night long
Listenin' to Judy Garland songs

Now I'm locked behind bars of steel
I was just looking for a happy meal
I parked my rig and I went inside
They've never seen such a pretty bride

Jesse Jane, are you insane
Or are you just a normal guy who dresses like a butterfly
Jesse Jane

I paid my bill and I turned around
Facing every redneck in that one horse town
His face was red, his fist was clenched
He threw his coke and he got me drenched

Jesse Jane, are you insane
Or are you just an average joe looking for a fashion show
Jesse Jane

Well I guess that was the final straw
I pulled a pistol from my wonderbra
I killed 'em dead. Hah, I killed 'em all
And they finally caught me in the bathroom stall
And now I'm doing ten to life
But I'll tell you one thing bubba...
Some day I'm gonna make someone in here a hellava wife...

Jesse Jane, are you insane
Or are you just a average guy who dresses like a butterfly
Jesse Jane

Jesse Jane, are you insane
Or are you just a Peter Pan, looking for his Neverland
Jesse Jane"

After the jazz and comedy stylings of the last two songs, 'Sunset Babies (All Got Rabies)' is a return to the garage sound of the early 70's. It's a straight-up rock and roll song, simplistic and generic, but enjoyable and unpretentious

Additional musicians on the song are Lenny Castro (Tambourine), Teddy Zigzag Andreadis (Piano), Steve Lindsey (Organ), Peggi BIu & Edna Wright (Background Vocals)

06/13 - Sunset Babies (All Got Rabies) (Cooper, Roxie, Johnson)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6f3PDUBf7A

"They're running in packs on a saturday night
They got their own bark and they got their own bite
Waitin' in line I can't wait no more....No
Slip right in, get kicked out the back door

I don't know
If it's possible to tame one
I don`t know
If she'll follow me home
I don't know
What it is about her

Sunset babies all got rabies
Sunset babies all got rabies
Got my shot...

They got a sixth sense, they know why you're here
They can smell the fear thru the smoke and the beer
They're a vicious breed and they just don't care
You think you're in but you're getting nowhere

I don't know
If it's safe to pet one
I don`t know
To go for my throat
I don't know
What it is about them

Sunset babies all got rabies
Sunset babies all got rabies
And I'd buy her a diamond collar, if she'd only throw me a bone
Here I am alone...

Sunset babies all got rabies
Sunset babies all got rabies
Got my shot...

And she's supposed to be a mans best friend
Why she play around
Now I gotta put that old girl down"

The strangest song on the album, and possibly the strangest thing that Alice has ever recorded, 'Pretty Ballerina', is a cover of a 1966 track by the baroque pop band The Left Banke. [Interesting fact. At one point, The Left Banke featured Michael McKean on guitar. He is better known as David St. Hubbins, vocalist and guitarist with metal band Spinal Tap!]

The original version can be found here

Alice has said of the original song: ""Pretty Ballerina" was their second hit. I heard it when I was a kid in 1965-66. It’s just such a great curveball; it sounds a little bit like "Only Women Bleed." It has that delicacy and darkness, even though when you listen to it it’s just a love song. The way it was written really appeals to that darker romantic side of me.""

Presumably it was recorded as a tribute to Sheryl

Additional musicians were Jim Cox (Keyboards), Steve Lindsey (Keyboards), Dinah Englund & Bridget Benenote (Background Vocals)

07/13 - Pretty Ballerina (Michael Brown)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1OMASRnXqc

"I had a date with a pretty ballerina
Her hair so brilliant that it hurt my eyes
I asked her for this dance
and then she obliged me
Was I surprised, yeah
Was I surprised, no not at all

I called her yesterday,
it should have been tomorrow
I couldn't keep the joy that was inside
I begged for her to tell me
if she really loved me
Somewhere a mountain is moving
Afraid it's moving without me

(ba ba ba ba)

I had a date with a pretty ballerina
Her hair so brilliant that it hurt my eyes
I asked her for this dance
and then she obliged me
Was I surprised, yeah
Was I surprised, no not at all

And when I wake up up on a dreary Sunday morning
I open up my eyes to find there's rain
And something strange within said,
go ahead and find her
Just close your eyes, yeah
Just close your eyes and she'll be there
She'll be there...
She'll be there...
She'll be there...
She'll be there...
She's there...
She's there...
Aw.. she's there...
Yeah She's there...
She'll be there"

'Run Down The Devil' sees Alice back in the garage, rocking out like its 1972! After the whimsy of the previous song, I find this a boring rock and roll song. Again, very simple and generic

Additional musicians on the song are John Robinson (Drums), Mike Elizondo (Bass & Guitars), Rick Boston (Guitars)

Credited writers on the song are Benji Hughes (who wrote songs for the 2007 film 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story'), Mike Elizondo (who has worked with Dr. Dre and Eminem), and Mark Hudson (who has worked with Aerosmith, Ringo Starr and was part of the vocal coach team for 'The X Factor' in 2004, where he was nicknamed "Weird Beard")

08/13 - Run Down The Devil (Cooper, Hughes, Elizondo, Hudson)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsi2-7P4s7o

"It's twelve o'clock in the mornin'
While everybody is sleepin'
I want him dead in my headlights
'Cause in the shadow he's creepin'

Drive on down to lonely street
He's always waitin' there for me

Run down the devil, run the devil down
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down
Run down the devil, run the devil down
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down

I wanna take him to the mercury grill
I hope he's ready for the big blast
He'll be my ultimate road kill
I'll kick his future up his past

I'll send him back to hell alright
The world can sleep in peace tonight

Run down the devil, run the devil down
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down
Run down the devil, run the devil down
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down

Everybody's gotta hold him down
Can't let beelze-baby back in town

Run down the devil, run the devil down
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down
Run down the devil, run....
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down
Run down the devil, run the devil down
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down
Run down the devil, run....
Run Down the devil, run him down, down, down"

The next song, 'Steal That Car', is an entertaining song, based around a fast guitar riff, with a solo that sounds like something Chuck Berry would do. It's the kind of song that I can imagine being played over a montage in a 80's teen movie!

Not actually sure what is going on with the video here!!

Additional musicians was Steve Lindsey (Keyboards)

09/13 - Steal That Car (Cooper, Roxie, Garric, Johnson)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPHzz98fivI

"It just ain't fair I was put in that position
Somebody left their keys in the ignition
I saw the unlocked door and I made my decision
I just can't help myself

Everybody knows, I'm gonna steal that car
My reputation shows, I'm gonna steal that car
I did some time in '99
I'll do some time again
Everybody knows, I'm gonna steal that car

I don`t get bored in a Chevy or a Ford
With a V8 engine and a four on the floor
And a naughty maserati can't be ignored
I just can't help myself

Everybody knows, I'm gonna steal that car
My reputation shows, I'm gonna steal that car
I did some time in '99
I'll do some time again
Everybody knows, I'm gonna steal that car
Yeah

Everybody knows, I'm gonna steal that car
My reputation grows, I'm gonna steal that car
I did some time in '99
I'll do some time again
Everybody knows, I'm gonna steal that car
My reputation shows, I'm gonna steal that car
steal that car
steal that car
steal that car
Steal it, Steal it, Steal it
Steal it, Steal it, Steal it
Steal it, Steal it, Steal it
Car..........
I want that car
I want that car
I want that car"

'Six Hours' is a slow blues song, but there's no 'umph' to it. It's bland and lifeless, and doesn't pull at the heartstrings like the blues are supposed to. It also proves that Alice's voice is not suited to thins kind of music

Additional musicians on the song are Steve Lindsey (String Ensemble, Piano & Tambourine) and Rick Boston (Twelve String Guitar & Guitar Solo) [although Ryan Roxie has also stated that he plays the big solo at the end of the song]

10/13 - Six Hours (Cooper, Roxie)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpVXahutc_E

"There's only six hours left in the day
Time is so precious an' it's slippin' away
Got no destination, got no place to go
Being with you was all that I know

Put your head on my pillow
We're finally alone
Wash the dust from your hair now
I don`t care if you ever get home

There's only six hours, how quickly it goes
in this sacred place, a secret is safe, Nobody knows
Put your head on my pillow
We're finally alone
Wash the dust from your hair now
I don`t care if you ever get home
Wash the dust from your hair now
I don`t care... if you ever get home..."

'Your Own Worst Enemy' opens with a 60's inspired guitar riff, which sounds like something The Kinks or The Who would have come up with!

At a shade over two minutes, it's too short to be offensive, but it's not long enough to be fully engaging

Additional musicians are Lenny Castro (Tambourine), Steve Lindsey (Organ) and Teddy "Zigzag" Andreadis (Organ)

11/13 - Your Own Worst Enemy (Cooper, Roxie)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6xGIeG6Ep4

"You're your own worst enemy
You're a walkin' catastrophe

You get up every morning on the wrong side of the bed
You butter your hand, instead of your bread
Drink enough coffee to wake up the dead
You're doing eighty-five and the light is turning red
The judge took your licence and forbid you to drive
And your heart is pumping, begging, and your barely alive

You're your own worst enemy
You're a walkin' catastrophe
You're at war with yourself and nobody else
You're a danger
You're a danger

You trip on your shoelace and fall on your face
Your hair is a mess, your clothes a disgrace
Your stock went south and your girlfriend is gay
Your dog ate your cat, and that was your GOOD day

You're your own worst enemy
You're a walkin' catastrophe
You're at war with yourself and nobody else
You're a danger
You're your own worst enemy
You're a walkin' catastrophe
You're at war with yourself and nobody else
You're a danger
You're a danger
Too many stranger
You`re a mess
Yes yes."

'Zombie Dance' is a good one, dripping with N'arlins swamp mugginess and atmosphere. It's a mid-tempo pop song with a pleasant and light percussion section, good guitars crunching along sweetly, and a soaring chorus. There's even a harmonica wailing around in the background which adds to the ambience

Additional musicians on the song are Lenny Castro (Percussion), Steve Lindsey (Piano & Organ), Peggi Blu & Edna Wright (Background Vocals)

12/13 - Zombie Dance (Cooper, Roxie, Boston)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odCBLkplGAc

"Walking through the tombstones, go there every day
Stood damn still, I gotta chill, someone walked across my grave
Stroll across the killing fields in the middle of the night
Walked across the fire in the cold moon light

Black Cat crossed my pathway
Winks a Juju eye
Cross myself and kiss this world goodbye

The nights alive with music, puts me in a trance
Sneak up on the bonfire, watch the zombies dance
My tongue is hot and burnin' when I try to speak
Spirit is all willing, the flesh is getting weak
yeah it's gettin' weak

Now I ain't superstitious
Don't roll no juju bones
Someone calls in the middle of the night
But no ones on the phone..

Black cat cross my pathway
Winks a Juju eye
I cross myself and kiss this world goodbye

I ain't superstitious
Don't grow no voodoo doll
Someone calls in the middle of the night
No ones on the phone..

Nights alive with music...
Nights alive with music..."

'Stand', which was only included on the European and American release, is a strange song for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it was listed as being a bonus song, but the album had only just been released. Most bonus songs are added to the track listing after the record had been out some time, but not here. As soon as it was released, it contained a bonus song!

Secondly, Alice had the weird idea of collaborating with hip-hop artist Xzibit. I know nothing about hip-hop music, so I can't adequately judge it. All I can say is that it is a protest song, and Alice has a good vocal hook

Afeni Shakur, who is given a namecheck in the song, is the mother Tupac Shakur, a rapper who was murdered in a drive-by shooting in September 1996

The additional musicians were Xzibit (Rap), Rick Boston (Guitars & Bass), Lyle Workman (Guitars), Daniel Lenz (Synthesizers & Loop), John Robinson (Drum)

The additional credited writer is Bridget Benenate, who had previously worked with Bewitched and 'American Idol' winner Kelly Clarkson

13/13 - Stand (Cooper, Benenate, Boston, Xzibit))

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV0PluivXzg

[xzibit]: Yeah
Stand Up
Ha?
What do you believe in?
Ha?
Yeah
Stand Up
Aha
C'mon

[Alice]: Just a face in the crowd
Feelin' lost, down and out
(Can you hear me now)
Millions more just like you
Afraid to do what they wanna do
(Am I getting through)

Lots of losers hanging round
Only there to bring you down
Get you feet up off the ground
Get up. Get up. Get up

If you don't stand for somethin'
You will fall for anythin'
If you don't stand for somethin'
You will fall for anythin'
Get up

[Xhibit]: Yeah Yeah

[Alice]: Don't you know that you're worth
As much as anyone on earth
(You`re a megastar)
Put your hands in the sky
Let your freaky colours fly
(Get 'em way up high)

You got style and you got game
So get it out don't be ashamed
(Xhibit: Yeah)
Let everybody know your name
(Xhibit: C'mon)
Get it on out now, what's you name

If you don't stand for somethin'
You will fall for anythin'
If you don't stand for somethin'
(Xhibit: Stand Up)
You will fall for anythin'
Get up

[Xhibit]: Yeah
Ah
Yeah
Breathe with me
Yeah
C'mon
Breathe

You can stand for peace
You can stand for war
I stand in the square I never stood before
I take a stand for my son like Afeni Shakur
I take a stand like a four double six six four
Stand alone in my struggle
Can't make me stand down
Make 'em crash and burn
Mayday mayday man down
Get up stand up get your damn hands off
If they not shackled to your feet in some handcuffs

We need solutions, not propaganda
Let the tape roll, make the whole world stand up
Hold your position, don't go backwards
X still grinding, the west's keeps shining
Don't look too long you might get blinded
Follow your heart, your head might just find it
I pray for the strength to handle what my city brings
Better stand for something (or) you're bound to fall for anything

[Alice]: If you don't stand for somethin'
(Xhibit: stand up stand up)
You will fall for anythin'
Get Up!
If you don't stand for somethin'
You will fall for anythin'
Everybody's got a voice
Now's the time to make some noise
(Let me hear you now)
Get up! "

Much better is the 'bonus' track that was only included on the Australian release of the album. 'The Sharpest Pain' is a more traditional Alice Cooper song

There was a DVD released of the tour, entitled 'Live At Montreux', recorded on July 12th 2005 at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Switzerland. Musically, it's a good one, but the theatrics don't really kick in until we get to the 'Welcome To My Nightmare' medley, and then they are used sparingly

Bonus tracks aren't used like previously, Susan.

Often the UK edition will claim to have bonus tracks on it's release. Whether it's an incentive to buy UK releases or not, it's certainly not an uncommon practice.

Although there had been no new album release, Alice was out on the road with a brand new show between 10th June 2007 - 25th March 2009. The tour started in South America, with 9 shows being announced but ultimately only three were played - Brazil (June 10th), San Paulo (June 12th) and Argentina (June 14th). After these, a handful of dates are played in mainland Europe between June 21st - July 1st. Australia follows (July 6th - July 21st) and then North America (August 10th - October 31st). Support acts on the American dates included The Blue Oyster Cult and Heaven And Hell (the re-named Black Sabbath, with Ronnie Dio and Vinny Appice). UK dates were then played between November 6th - November 18th, and the band visits Sheffield, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Nottingham, Brighton, Bournemouth, Cardiff, London and Manchester. Support on these dates come from Motorhead and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. More dates in Europe and Russia follow between November 21st - December 2nd

Between 19th March - 22nd March 2008, the band were in Australia and New Zealand, before playing a single Japanese show on 27th March. After a break, while the band recorded a new album, a few European dates were played between July 6th - July 21st

The new album was released mid-tour, July 25th 2008, so the remainder of the tour will be noted after the next album critique

Although there was no DVD release of the tour, a fan filmed version can be found here

Released in 2008, 'Along Came A Spider' was Alice's 25 studio album, and his 9th concept album! The storyline for the album 'revolves around a "cool, calm and collected" serial killer known as Spider. The police are baffled by the bodies of Spider's victims, which are cocooned in a silk web, and are each missing a leg. Spider's task is to collect eight legs in order to complete the construction of his own spider. However, things get complicated when he falls in love with his eighth victim'.

The album was originally meant to be released in 2007, but problems with producer scheduling caused it to slip back a year. The result is probably Alice's most focused and serious effort since Dragontown. Unlike Dirty Diamonds and The Eyes of Alice Cooper, he isn't messing about - this is a serious record which turned out to be Alice's highest-charting album since 'Hey Stoopid', back in 1991. It reached #31 on the UK album charts.

There was no permanent band for the recording. Each song consists of session musicians and guests

Producer - Greg Hampton, Danny Saber and Alice Cooper

The album opens with a spoken intro that leads into the first proper song. 'Prologue'/'I Know Where You Live', starts musically with a guitar riff lifted from 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana. The melody is pretty good and it has a nice hook. There is a good performance from Alice, taking the lead role of the killer (of course)

Alice Cooper - Vocals
Danny Saber - Guitars, Keyboards, Bass
Eric Singer - Drums
Bernard Fowler, Gerg Hampton - Backing vocals

The credited writers (and co-producers of the album) are Greg Hampton, who has also worked with many acts, including Tommy Bolin, Lita Ford Black Oak Arkansas and Ronnie Wood; and Danny Saber, who was a member of Black Grape and has also worked with Madonna, David Bowie, U2, The Rolling Stones Ozzy Osbourne, and Marilyn Manson

"Prologue (Spoken): "We found his diary today. He wrote in great detail, how cleverly he planned all of the killings. How precisely he executed his insane fantasies. It was all so perfect except for one thing...
(one thing, one thing, one thing, one thing)"

----------

I like to watch from my car
I like to make sure you don't go far
I know the hours you sleep
Don't approve of the company that you keep

While you're in work, I'm alone
In your room, on your bed and you'll never know
I like to go through your things
The touch, the smell, the joy it brings

I know where you live
I know where you hide
I know what keeps you alive
I know where you go
I know who you know
I know where you're spending your nights

I don't like the guy in the suit
Or that street punk in the combat boots
You may not see them again
I showed them a quick but painful end

I know where you live
I know where you hide
I know what keeps you alive
I know where you go
I know who you know
I know where you're spending your nights

I see, I feel, I watch over you
I see, I feel, I watch over you

I want to know what you say
I need to hear the prayers you pray
I like to play with your hair
When you sleep and you dream and there's no one there

I know where you live
I know where you hide
I know what keeps you alive
I know where you go
I know who you know
I know where your spending your nights

I see, I feel, I watch over you
I see, I feel, I watch over you
I see, I feel, I watch over you
I see, I feel, I watch over you
I see, I feel, I watch over you
I see, I feel, I watch over you"

There is something nice about Alice taking the role of a serial killer, and singing 'Vengeance Is Mine'. The expected over-exaggerating during the singing doesn't come - it's played straight. The guitars are dark and serious, but possibly not as much as they were on Dragontown, which is probably a good thing

Slash plays some guitar on this track. Alice has said: "He's my auxiliary guitarist. I took Guns N' Roses on their first tour in 1984 so he's always been like my boy"!

Alice Cooper - Vocals
Greg Hampton - Guitars, Backing vocals, strings
Chuck Garric - Bass, Backing vocals
Eric Singer - Drums
Slash - Lead guitar
Danny Saber - Additional Guitars

02/11 - Vengeance Is Mine (Cooper, Saber, Hampton)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skbndcHA4CM

"They hated every part of me
Expect me to forget it
They tried so hard to bury me
But I survived it every time

Convicted of every crime
Silently doing time
But when I get outta here
I wanna make it clear

Vengeance is mine
Vengeance is mine, mine, mine
To forgive is divine
But vengeance is mine, mine, mine

They tortured every inch of me
Then expect me to forget it
They thought that they would finish me
But I pull through every time

Punish me everyday
But I'll never break
Hold on to all your fears
'cause when I get outta here

Vengeance is mine
Vengeance is mine, mine, mine
To forgive is divine
But vengeance is mine, mine, mine

(Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance)

What I want
(Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance)

What I need
(Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance,
Vengeance)

What I want, What I need, What I want, What I need
(Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance,
Vengeance)
What I want, What I need, What I want, What I need
(Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance,
Vengeance)
(Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance... Vengeance)

Vengeance is mine, mine, mine
To forgive is divine
Not as rewarding I find
Because vengeance is mine...

Vengeance is mine, mine, mine
Vengeance is mine
Vengeance is mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine"
