BBC 4 showed a good documentary on Kate Bush tonight followed by a compilation of her performances at the BBC, quite a few of which I'd not seen before. No doubt it will be repeated but if not it should be on iplayer.

It's a shame there are no official Kate Bush DVD's, featuring either the Hammersmith show from 1979, or a collection of her videos

No doubt this will change after her upcoming live dates!

PUNK IN AFRICA. A great look at the little known punk scene in Africa focussing mainly on South Africa. Whilst art school tossers in the UK were whinging on about apathy and boredom, this lot were risking arrest and imprisonment just for forming bands with both black and white members. Recommended.

BEWARE MR BAKER. Possibly the greatest drummer of rock proves he is one of the most damaged and damaging souls around. Unbelievable stuff, the man is pure scum and genius in one very gaunt frame. Highly recommended.

EAST END BABYLON. F*cking fantastic film about The Cockney Rejects that is also a social history of the East End of London. Great live footage and interviews plus loads of footage of mass violence as the Rejects kick shit out of people on and off stage! Highly recommended.

All duly noted sir. Am looking forward to the Rejects doc especially.

A few that I find myself watching a lot.

Flipper live 80-85 (Target Video dvd). The Grateful Dead of the 80s run through their moves. An acquired taste yes, but then so are Toto

Ramones Raw. Not so much for the main feature, which is just basically Marky's tour diary, but the French concert in the extras is a MUST for any Ramones fan. Joey looks like he's standing in a wind tunnel at one point, which always makes me smile.

Xenakis Electronic Works Volume 1. this is alternately beautiful and disturbing.....

TGV. The Gristle on film. Contains some of the most terrifying material in my collection, and also the prettiest.

I also have Big Black and Von dvdrs that I watch a lot......

I've got the double pack On Stage set....VHS and CD. An item from before dvd haha.

Kate Bush's arched eyebrow is worth more than most bands careers imho.

Yesterday, I watched The Who DVD '30 Years Of Maximum R&B'

A few talking head interviews, but mostly a trip thru time, featuring The Who live from 1965 (Richmond Blues & Jazz Festival) to 1989 (Giants Stadium) via Tanglewood, the Isle of Wight and Charlton. (Yes, I KNOW that isn't 30 years, but stop complaining!)

It's a fascinating history of a changing band - from rebellious garage punks, to stadium filling MTV darlings

The quality of the early work is dubious to say the least (both picture and music), but it is still a 'must see' for any fan of The 'Orible 'Oo



Watch the aggressive playing from Keith, especially from 01:20, when Roger interferes with his playing!

Bit of a 'Rush-a-thon' yesterday

I started with the 'Grace Under Pressure tour' DVD. This really is not my favourite era for the band. I love the first 4 albums, but when they changed from a straightforward rock band into a prog rock band, I kinda lost interest

Everything about this DVD screams 80's, from what they are wearing, the hairstyles and Geddy Lee's headless bass guitar

I might watch it again, skipping to my favourite songs, but it really doesn't have a big re-watch value



After that, I did the 'A Show Of Hands' DVD. This is from the same era, so it suffers the same fate as the previous one - not enough of the songs I like, and too many from the mediocre albums they were releasing at the time

Again, the re-watch value is limited



Rush do release good DVD's - 'Rush in Rio', 'R:30', 'Snakes And Arrows' - but the ones that are in the 'Replay X3' box set are not my cup of tea (or glass of vodka!)
