The Loudest Band in the World: The epic story of Motörhead gets the graphic novel treatment / Dangerous Minds "When it came time for author David Calcano to pen the graphic novel take on Motörhead’s illustriously loud, 40-year career, he, the folks at Fantoons, and illustrator Mark Irwin (fittingly a former art director for Heavy Metal magazine), took the project very seriously. You may recall that Calcano has authored various other music-related graphic novels on artists such as Billie Holliday, and a few eclectic coloring books featuring Frank Zappa and Marillion (!). Calcano’s latest graphic novel, the 144 page Motörhead: The Rise of the Loudest Band in the World, (due on September 7th, 2021), begins Motörhead’s debaucherous story with Lemmy (as it should) back when Kilmister was working as a tutor / instructor at a horse riding school in North Wales. At the time, the teenager and soon-to-be-hellraiser thought working with horses was what he would do for a living. It was, after all, according to Lem, a great way to “get along with women.”" " Thankfully, after his ears were exposed to artists such as Little Richard and Elvis (specifically the jam “All Shook Up”), Lemmy’s work with horses was history, though equines would continue to be a part of his life, for nearly all of his life. Here’s a look at some of the illustrations from Motörhead: The Rise of the Loudest Band in the World which wouldn’t be complete without a few panels of Lemmy clutching a large bottle of his beloved drug of choice, speed, and a naked chick."

Only about 40 years late! "In July 1981, shortly after No Sleep ’Til Hammersmith topped the charts, Hammer’s Malcolm Dome met Lemmy to talk about Motorhead’s fast-rising fame. Unpublished until now, here is their conversation in full" "The label expected us to do a pop album!": The lost Lemmy interview / Metal Hammer

Quote:
I was delighted to read this interview in the magazine. Dome must have got the interview as a freelance and not been able to get it published anywhere. It's not like Metal Hammer could have published it as they weren't a going concern in the UK until 1986. Kerrang! only began it's monthly publishing in June 81. |

The joys of old Saturday morning television! Lemmy plays 'pass the pie' with David Van Day from Dollar, Jay Aston from Bucks Fizz, David Jaymes from Modern Romance, Tim Worman from the Pole Cats and Denise Dufort from Girlschool One of Sally James's Almost Legendary Pop Interviews with Motorhead Of the incident, in 2017 Fast Eddie said: “Tiswas was really f------- funny. All the bands used to love doing that show. We were doing an interview with Sally James and she says, ‘Oh look, there’s somebody over there knows you.’ Me and Lemmy turn around like c---s, and of course [black-masked, custard-pie-toting character] the Phantom Flan Flinger does us both."

March 24 1979 - 43 years ago, Motorhed released their second album - 'Overkill'. A ferocious landmark album which many people think is their best release Some facts about 'Overkill' Lemmy said he always wanted Tina Turner to record 'I'll Be Your Sister' - imagine that version! The title track was written off the back of a Philthy Phil drum practice routine. Said Phil: "I got this other bass drum and I used to get to rehearsals a couple of hours before the other guys and just practise, you know, just sit there going [mimes kicking with both feet] like running, or something like that... I was actually playing that riff, just trying to get my coordination right, when Eddie and Lemmy walked in, and I was just about to stop and they went, 'No, don't stop! Keep going!' And that was how Overkill got written." Lars Ulrich and Dave Lombardo both credit this beat with inspiring their thrash drumming styles. Also, around the 3:14 mark, you can hear a voice shout "Go!" just before Phil launches back into his trademark ferocious double-pedal beat. The solo on 'Capricorn' was an accident - Fast Eddie was noodling around in the studio whilst tuning up, and producer Jimmy Miller happened to be recording. He added echo to it, and then Eddie finished tuning, walked into the control room and said, 'I’ll do it now.' Jimmy told him, 'Oh, we got it.' '(I Won't) Pay Your Price' famously starts with Lemmy burping "I'm so drunk" into the mic The second solo on album closer 'Limb From Limb' isn't played by Fast Eddie Clark, it's Lemmy, laying down some rare non-bass licks. It's one of only a handful of times in their 40 year career that Lemmy played guitar on a Motörhead studio album.

"In 1982, following the back-to-back triumphs of 'Ace of Spades' and 'No Sleep Til Hammersmith', Motörhead released their fifth album, 'Iron Fist', and looked to hit the road once again in support of the record. Needing an intro-film to kick off their show, Lemmy, Fast Eddie and Philthy Phil filmed a gory, brutal and hilarious three-minute movie portraying the power trio as vodka-fueled medieval knights frightening off villains by punching the air with their iron fist. As if that weren't awesome enough, the clip was soundtracked by an instrumental rager aptly titled "Ripsaw Teardown." Now, ahead of the 40th anniversary reissue of Iron Fist, this relic — previously only found on bootleg VHS tapes — has been dusted off and restored. It's kitschy treat that brings to mind Monty Python and the Holy Grail but shittier and gnarlier in that signature Motörhead way."

Back when children's television was good! It's a day late but... On October 6th 1984, Motorhead appeared on the Central children’s TV show 'Saturday Starship' Only in the Bizarro-world of 1980's children’s television could the idea of putting Motorhead on a Saturday morning kids’ TV show seemed like a normal idea. Especially when Timmy Mallett was also on the programme!! Songs performed were 'Iron Fist', 'Killed By Death', 'Ace of Spades', 'Steal Your Face' and 'Overkill' Lemmy said: "Before starting off on our tour to promote "No Remorse", we made an appearance on ITV's "Saturday Starship". Apparently some people complained because we were rehearsing early in the morning for the show in the station's parking lot. I don't know what the problem was - 8:30 AM was the time they gave us to rehearse and they put the stage up in the parking lot."
